You don't congratulate someone when they don't deserve the recognition. 8 million in sales for what? A gimmick. I'll say the same for the Move, neither of them have a launch library worthy of the sales they recieved. Kinect had only "Dance Central" and Move had "Sports Champions" and the games with Move added features.

You can't seriously believe that Kinect deserves higher sales than the Dreamcast...

Isn't the whole idea of buying a new gaming system (or peripheral) because of the launch library? Wii had "Twilight Princess", 360 had "Elder Scrolls IV" and the PS3 had "Resistance." If the Wii didn't have "Twilight Princess" "Metroid 3" and "Wii Sports" people would have completely written it off because of its motion control but it proved it could work. Kinect has so far been able to just wave your arms around and dance. Theres no way you can move around in a 3D space (move forward, backward and sidde-to-side in-game) so its applications are limited to on-rails games. Its not deserved.

Seriously though. Pretty good numbers, 360 may have finally beaten ps3 for a quarter. Looking forward to seeing what all is in the next fiscal reports.

It's MS up to it's normal shinannigans, Go check what packages are available to consumers at the moment and tell me they aren't doing the same thing fanboys accused Sony of doing with Blu-ray.

and FYI, my family bought me a useless 4GB slim model for x-mas that cant take the HDD from my launch 360, no HDDs available (they are $100 on sale) and the only way I could get a larger hard drive is to return it and get a kinect package.

IMO their is still plenty of oppurtunity for the thing to bust (kinect). We cant just go off of launch and XMAS sales, because everything sells more at XMAS and launch sales are usualy high for most things. I want another good 8 month of this thing on the market before claiming anything.

the hardware acceleration part was amazing though!

I dug up that vgchartz thread from a few days ago, but decided not to link it since people were just dissing vgc, not doubting the numbers.

So could vgc be right and the gap is over 4 million units? I guess I'll "just wait"...for official numbers.:shock:

TC didn't claim they were. People expected it to flop, and it did the exact opposite.

A peripheral that manages to sell to roughly 20% of the 360's owners is pretty successful.

Kinect is awesome, i mean really awesome. The potential that sensor has is incredible. Now we need some really good games for it. How they are going to hit 50 million when they have not sold 50 million consoles is beyond me.djsifer01

Gaming device it's also doing not too shabby since a lot of people Dance Central and Kinect Sport are actually fun.

Nah, it's a testament to how much money you can make by creating gaming devices that allow newbies to have fun. I showed my mom the debut on Jimmy Fallon way, way before the marketing blitz started and she was immedietely like, "I want one!" They just had to show the dodge ball minigame and she was sold. That easy.

Im guessing this is shipped vs sold. MS and Sony tend to use shipped numbers more often.

For 360 they said "50 million XBOX owners", so it seems to be sold-through like they did with earlier Kinect numbers. For Kinect, it's most likely shipped since they only said, "has sold".

We'll be getting quarterly reports in a few weeks so we'll know for sure then.

Actualy, its shipped, not sold. We still dont know if they sold their 5 million goal. I thought only SONY does Shipped numbers?
