Then I don't follow. I think you agreed that MK8 is a graphically impressive game, but then you call it out on its artstyle in your post? Unless you are saying the games are not similar genres and shouldn't be compared, in which case I have to say... they are both racers. They are both among the premier releases for their respective systems this year. That already makes them have more in common than about 70% of the other comparisons on this board.
I wasn't talking about graphics. They are both racers but they are pretty much as different as they get. So you're comparing the two which makes no real sense.
That's basically like comparing CoD with ArmA. They don't appeal to the same fans nor are they even trying to compete. There is in no way that DriveClub and Mario Kart 8 are competing for the same fans like Gran Truismo and Forza do. A much more apt comparison would be DriveClub vs. Grid. Hell even Forza vs. DriveClub or GT vs. DriveClub makes more sense. There could even be a Forza Horizon 2 this year for a perfect comparison. Project CARS is coming out later this year and that would be a good game to compare DriveClub to. While I know that one is a sim and another is sim light, it's still a better comparison than a sim-light racer vs. a cartoon/battle racing game.
But if you want to talk graphics I'm game. Mario Kart 8 is indeed a great looking game, but it's easy to see why it's 1080p at 60fps. Its got very simple geometry and textures. Lighting and shading is also very nice looking and flashy but it too is pretty simple otherwise it would complicate the clean picture Mario Kart has the distinct advantage of being a cartoony game when it comes to visuals.
DriveClub is in its own league when it comes to graphics. Not only does one car probably have more polygons being rendered than an entire scene of Mario Kart 8, you're also looking at a fully dynamic lighting engine with time of day with dynamic day and night cycles. Then they decided to set the game in very large, highly detailed landscapes. It's clearly by far the more demanding of the two games. The whole 30fps makes a lot of sense when you look at the graphics as it's pretty clear the developer didn't want to sacrifice any detail for 60fps. They could have easily gone that route too. Turn 10 did with Forza 5 and because of that Forza 5 is a very graphically inconsistent game.
So here you're trying to take an artistic approach that is very technically friendly and compare it with a very technically demanding approach. You throw the whole 1080p60 vs 1080p30 on the list of comparisons as if it means something to the discussion when it really doesn't. It's just a bulletpoint in favor of a game you clearly are hyped for.
I get it, you're excited for Mario Kart 8, but you're comparing to unrelated games and even bringing up stupid things like the direct to Youtube upload as if that somehow makes the game better to play. Not only is the bias evidence, it's just unnecessary. It's really pointless. They are unrelated games in their respective subgenre of racing. If you have a WiiU you can buy Mario Kart 8 and if you have a PS4 you can buy DriveClub or wait for the Crew if the game ends up being mediocre. One of these two games being better than the other means nothing considering they are fundamentally different games with completely different audiences.
I know I shouldn't be getting wrapped up into this as much but I'm sick of seeing these stupid comparisons. It breeds really dumb conversation when there are plenty of other things to discuss and debate about.
