Gears got a high score because....

it was one of the first true next gen game when it 1st came out. and the 360 was the console who started developing nxt gen games 1st.

and remember, no one back then has ever seen great grphx like gears ever b4 the 360 came out so when gears came out it just shocked and mind blown everyone with its pretty grphx and its "next gen gameplay" (i guess u can say that).

so its scores could easily be based on how defying it was back then in gaming history since it was huge jump from a game like ff12 where back then had one of the most awesome grphx(IMO) to a game like gears with even better grphx.

im starting to think that ppl are starting to 4get thats its only been 2 years since we came into this gen.....its like everyone 4got that grhpx back in the days were in our current view is pretty lame. but back then when there was no game as pretty as crysis, games like god of war 1 or 2 were mind blowing in terms of grphx and gameplay.

so agree or disagree im just making a statement based on wat i think is right.

The gameplay wasn't too bad. The focus on cover was a nice change of pace from most of the other run-and-gun shooters out there today. Just wish the campaign was longer, though...-The-G-Man-

I thought the campaign was too short but after playing through it a bunch of different times on different difficulties single and co-op it seems the right size and makes it much more replayable. If it was any longer it would be too daunting a task.

yeah of course...

i enjoyed it but it was no 9.6...halo 2 mp or halo 3 mp is much much much better.

But God of War II came after Gears of War.

Anyway, I don't think that's why people like Gears of War. I don't know why people like it... Just like I don't know why people like Halo. I can tell you that there is more to it than the graphics, though.

nope,because the score was heavily based on its grphx and its so called "defying gameplay"(yes i pulled that out of my behind) with its cover-system.

I prefer longer single player parts in games, so those was just my thoughts. Gears of War wasn't one of those games where I wanted to play the single player again, either. Not that it was bad, but I didn't feel a need to play it again like I do with some other games.

But God of War II came after Gears of War.

Anyway, I don't think that's why people like Gears of War. I don't know why people like it... Just like I don't know why people like Halo. I can tell you that there is more to it than the graphics, though.

thats why i put in god of war 1 and ff12.

i cnt think of anything else other than its grphx and its "hardcore" action and gore and its cover system and how the camera angle when theyre running makes the game look more intense.

Graphics don't make a game for me. I like game play more for some reason... Gears was pretty good but I hate multiplayer games with one life. Why would I sit and wait for the game to be over when I could be respawning in other games?musicXpirate

Yeah I know how you feel. In ANNEX mode you respawn I believe but I have just now started playing the versus modes online and I don't like getting killed then sitting around waiting.

it's numbers are high all across the board. it wasn't AAA because of "ooo look at the graphics".

Gears was a good game, the SP gameplay was fantastic but it was too short for my liking. I'm not really a fan of the multiplayer though, and don't think that it deserved GotY.

You clearly havent played the game yourself. It had great sound as well as great gameplay, no other game before it nailed cover-gameplay the way GeOW did.
