I only had 5 slots.[QUOTE="limpbizkit818"]
You should have put this on your poll as its own game.

Well, that is a mod so I didn't expect it to be on there. I did expect this game:P

Yeah, not falling for that twice.[QUOTE="lordreaven"]Playing the Western Roman Empire is a treat.Stevo_the_gamerYet incredibly difficult. And it is THE most fun I ever had. The trick is to disband high maintenance units and your entire navy and start focusing on Trade (alot of towns lack ports). Then after that hope only a few provinces rebel and hope they are not the more valuable ones. Also convert to Paganism, the majority of your provinces are Pagan and will be very difficult to convert if you go Christian.
Rome stands as my favorite. Medieval II comes in a close second, especially with mods like the Third Age.

Good strategies, but they faulter when the barbarians start attacking or if the East decides to betray you. The most difficulty I've had doesn't come from this, but The Third Age: Total War. Incredible mod though.
Shogun 2 is by far the best, but Rome is my favorite. Love it or hate it Shogun 2 made some pretty big advances in the series
[QUOTE="LaytonsCat"]why do people hate it? i only got it like 2 weeks ago but its an awesome game.I can see the complaints towards Shogun 2, it's limited in scope and variety.Shogun 2 is by far the best, but Rome is my favorite. I don't bother with GGD.i like them all but the one i played most was empire for about 24 hours, and steam says i only played shogun 2 for 4 hours :(
i need to play shogun 2 more but the damn steam sales keep getting in the way :)

This is a bit like asking which is the best (non-CDi) Zelda title; there's really no wrong answer. I'll take Shogun II for my money, though.famicommanderWell pick your favorite then.

You have 2, well 3 fully fledged out Empires that are supposed to collapse, in most TW games it's a snowball effect of getting bigger.

Not really, I've heard a lot of differing opinions. Nope, it is Rome. Lol. There were so many people still playing it when Empires and Napoleon came out. Idk about these days now, but Rome is by far the best simply because of unit diversity and the settings. The campaign was unique as well. Upgrading roads up to 5 times, anyone?[QUOTE="padaporra"]
Rome. This is known.

Shogun 2, at least when counting only vanilla. Most polished, best AI, finally good naval battles and for the first time great MP.
Don't forget Spider man sieges.Shogun 2, at least when counting only vanilla. Most polished, best AI, finally good naval battles and for the first time great MP.

Shogun 2 is my current favorite, but I have no doubt that Rome 2 will dethrone it. Now that they have the naval battles worked out in this series the sky is the limit.
