Alright, poll question here. Which Total War do you think is best? Try not to vote if you have only played one.

You should have put this on your poll as its own game. Look at that mini-map:)

Yet incredibly difficult.

And it is THE most fun I ever had. The trick is to disband high maintenance units and your entire navy and start focusing on Trade (alot of towns lack ports). Then after that hope only a few provinces rebel and hope they are not the more valuable ones. Also convert to Paganism, the majority of your provinces are Pagan and will be very difficult to convert if you go Christian.

Rome stands as my favorite. Medieval II comes in a close second, especially with mods like the Third Age.

Good strategies, but they faulter when the barbarians start attacking or if the East decides to betray you. The most difficulty I've had doesn't come from this, but The Third Age: Total War. Incredible mod though.

They do fail, but that's the fun, Improvising when things fail. In my current WRE game I managed to defeat 2 Hordes and hold off the ERE and Franks. I lost some regions but I am slowly grinding the gears of making new legions, one is already marching to defeat the franks, the other is off to my lost Balkan Provinces, and a third is being made in North Africa to wipe out the Berbers. You have to accept you will lose land as the WRE. That makes the pain sting less. Even if you lose you still great.

Yeah, Shogun 2 seemed stale to me. I liked the Varied factions Rome and Medieval 2 had.

I do miss that too, but you can make much more different kinds of armies in Shogun 2 than any other Total War game.

Empire and Shogun 2 are kinda opposites. One is very polished and the other is not. I'm surprised not that many people like Empire though. I really liked the slow paced action and international campaign.

This is a bit like asking which is the best (non-CDi) Zelda title; there's really no wrong answer. I'll take Shogun II for my money, though.

I still say Rome: Barbarian Invasion just because I find it more......Interesting. You have 2, well 3 fully fledged out Empires that are supposed to collapse, in most TW games it's a snowball effect of getting bigger.

Not really, I've heard a lot of differing opinions.

Nope, it is Rome. Lol. There were so many people still playing it when Empires and Napoleon came out. Idk about these days now, but Rome is by far the best simply because of unit diversity and the settings. The campaign was unique as well. Upgrading roads up to 5 times, anyone?

I know a lot of people play it because I still go online. I expected the majority to be with Rome, but it isn't exactly a blowout.

Shogun 2, at least when counting only vanilla. Most polished, best AI, finally good naval battles and for the first time great MP.

Shogun 2 is my current favorite, but I have no doubt that Rome 2 will dethrone it. Now that they have the naval battles worked out in this series the sky is the limit.

I spent the most time with Rome, though I think I spent more time on a modded version of Rome than the actual original game itself, thought this is true for me for every total war game I've played. Also haven't played shogun 2 yet even though I have it on steam.

Medieval 2: Total War with The Crusades add-on.
