[QUOTE="musicalmac"]lol trick question?Stevo_the_gamerOh you. :P LOL, yes. It was you I was hoping would see me talking about Total W-
I haven't played Empire or Shogun, nor have I played the first Shogun or Medieval. I must say that, based on my experience and preference, Medieval II was the most entertaining. The time period interests me. I am also Catholic, and it is interesting replaying that time period to some extent. I must say, though, that mods really make the game what it is. Stainless Steel for MII made it great. EB and RSII make Rome more interesting. Unfortunately, turn-times with my laptop on Stainless Steel are extremely long, so I've been trying to play vanilla. It's still good, but just not the same as with mods.
Also, Steam can make it a pain to mod for Rome and Medieval because of Steam DRM that changes the launcher .exe and/or how the game launches. There was less support for Steam when they were made, though, and this should become more and more rare as DD becomes the standard.

LOL. gtfo.Stevo_the_gamer*musicalmac snorts, startled by Stevo's sobbing and tears*
with the terrible reviews Rome 2 is getting, I'm thinking of going back to Rome 1 or MTW2 - not played them in years but I remember they were excellent. What are the best mods for these? Thanks!
Not really. The game might have aged, but not all that much and many people just love it's era the most. Plus along with Medieval 2 it has by far the best modding community.ÂNapoleon and Shogun 2. Alot of Rome's praise comes from nostalgia.

Also Shogun 2 has both Rise Of the Samuria and Fall Of The Samurai, both taking places hundreds of years apart.
TWs get their add-ons right. Some of the best expansion packs ever. Also Shogun 2 has both Rise Of the Samuria and Fall Of The Samurai, both taking places hundreds of years apart.

I think we can all agree:
Vannila-Shogun 2
Modded- Rome

In terms of gameplay Shogun 2 was best out-of-the box. But when you add the new mods for Rome it becomes a new game.
I'm sure Rome 2 is probably the best, but I haven't had time to play it yet. My favorite so far is Empire. I really liked the large campaign map, naval trade theatres, etc. There were a few unfortunate design decisions, but I really think an Empire 2 with a few tweaks could be the perfect game.PurpleMan5000It runs at 20fps and that's certainly the least of it's problems

If Rome 2, then that's not really surprising. I would expect a patch and driver updates are coming that will make it run much better.
So I haven't played Rome 2, but do you guys think if all the performance problems and bugs were ironed out, it would be the best Total War?tagyhag
too soon to tell. People are still either unreasonably angry about the performance issues or they are in the honeymoon stage.Â
