It's very hard to compare this when you consider how long games have been around, and how much game music has evolved. While I may love the classic Zelda NES theme, or Mega Man 2, it doesn't really compare to modern music, specifically the ochestra instilled in some modern games.

I could probably write a book on music in movies, but I am a little less clear on music in games. Crysis 2's music, specifically the Hans Zimmer songs are some of the best I have heard in a long time though. Crysis 3 also has a few standout songs that are really incredible. Maybe including a Hans Zimmer song is a little cheap though, considering he is one of the best modern composers.

SentientMind
No modern music truly sucks and you are being fooled by improved sound processors...the actual songwriting is suckier now. You could take that crysis symphony song and turn it into midi file here is example. lol that's one of the suckiest one of the poorest structure songs i ever heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL9qdhRkcbk

Jason Hayes: Sali217

After 2 or 3 years of not playing I listened to the original Elwynn Forest music, and re-subbed last summer :P

I'm not playing anymore, thankfully, but it's amazing how powerful some of the World of Warcraft music is.

I really hope you are joking. I don't know what's funnier, the fact that you are trying to say Hans Zimmer's, one of the greatest modern composers, makes "sucky" music, or your overuse of the word "sucky". Next you are probably going to tell me that John Williams "sucks"!

Get back to me when you have a resume that is half as good as Zimmer's.

Yasunori Mitsuda, Michiru Yamane, Masashi Hamauzu, Nobuo Uematsu, and Manabu Namiki are the best of the best.

EDIT: Also don't forget Koichi Sugiyama! Wrote and composed "Heavenly Flight" in 1986, and then put an NES rendition in Dragon Quest!

Agreed. I also heard that Alfredo Hitcock and Sarumon Legolas are supposed to be pretty good. Too far ? It had to happen at some point :P

But seriously, I would swear by Toshio Hiroshima, he is an amazing composer.

Wow, it has to be that none of you know who Jeremy Soule is. He is hands down the best composer out of them all. I mean just for his amazing work with the Elder scrolls series and being the first composer to actually make some original Star Wars music (that fits and is amazing). His songs are the catchiest, original and most fitting for a specific universe.

Any time someone asks me about the best music in video games these games come to my mind instantly...

Works: Icewind Dale, Elder Scolls, Guild Wars, Dungeon Siege, KOTOR, Harry Potter, Total Annihilation, Putt-Putt, Bulder's Gate, along with many many more.

I remember when I played Kotor I found the use of original music interesting.

Second game had some great music, too.

Sam Hulick is my favorite composer. He's done an incredible job on the Mass Effect Trilogy. However, I think my favorite song is from Jeremy Soul, back when he did Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. It's called '' The Old Republic'' , the main theme of the game. Being my first true video game, I still get nostalgic listining to it

[QUOTE="epicgameplayer"]Who ever composed this is the greatest. Thats how beautiful this piece is lol p.s The best composers are almost always Japanese. Many American compositions are so bland by comparison. They just dont have that same spark. Listen to a good Japanese composer or good Japanese composition. Its a night and day difference You can sense all the heart poured into the music shining through So much more feeling. You can feel the emotion in Japanese compositions. Its inspiring. They are much better put together as well. Thats why Sony (and maybe even Nintendo) is much more creative then M$ is. For sure Sony is much better and more creative then Micro$oft is. The Japenese are very pasionate about what they do. Sony is very passionate about gaming and its fanbase. You see that shinning through in the PS4 brighter then ever and you saw it in the PS3 as well .... Where as Microsoft is just your average big shady amurikkkan corp out to make as much profit as possible and at any expense possible I cant say this enough, f^ck you Microsoft, and f^ck your lackluster Gears/Halo/Forza games too lol Anyway, Asians are really in tune with music, and IMO are much more creative and soulful composers on average

Whoever composed the tracks for Gears is best imo.

Worst would probably be the poor fool that composed the tracks in the Uncharted series.

Makes sense though since the Gears series has always been better in every way.

PS.  TLOU is the flop of all time.
