What the dual shock again????!?!?!?  Why couldn't we get a new controller.  The dual shock has been cramping my hand for 10 years now.  If we beg sony do you think they'll give use 2 controller designs to choose from?

I typed this a while ago...This is in response to people who think Sony is stealing Nintendo's "idea":

That type of technology is not new. Just because Nintendo is "using it" for their controllers doesn't mean that it is THEIR technology. Using actual 'kinetic control' is something that was developed long ago. Sony just decided to take advantage of it now...quit the whining and realize it was only a matter of time until it would happen. Just wait, either X360 will eventually feature this, or for sure the next Microsoft console will too. It's not Nintendo's creation, just the way they used it.

Not to mention, the way Sony is using this technology is completely different from the way Nintendo is using it. Sony's way is more of a "tilt" function for flight games, etc. Whereas Nintendo's controller can be used for fishing games where the controller is forcefully "cast" like a fishing rod....it's different.

I know a lot of people were mad over the boomerang design....but I hope they are happy that the dual shock is back. I wouldn't mind the boomerang controller.

I agree. The DualShock was cramping my hand too whenever I played.  I still miss the old Boomerang/Banana controller and still don't understand what was wrong with it.

Just for some who say they copied Nintendo... Yes they did. But not totally.

To anyone who thinks the PS3 controller can do what the Wii can aren't up to speed. The shape of the controller can't mimmick what the Wii can. They're still different.

Sony should've copied it fully (shape and all) and bite the bullet from devs than what they've done now.

Sony... WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?

Ugh I wrote this big post but the connection was reset and it vanished.....but basically

the ps3 controller cannot do as much as the Wii controller (its only good for driving and flying)

and the whole ps3 copied microsoft thing is true but microsoft and nintendo both have conferences coming up and they probablly were expecting this.....what is to come is what matters.....not what just happened

To be fair, I only caught the last few minutes of Sony's press conference.  I jumped in right as they were demoing the controller while playing the air fighter game.  From what I did see however, I honestly don't see myself wanting a controller that uses motion sensitivity.

A lot of times when I play games, I like to lay on the couch underneath a blanket.  This wouldn't really be possible if I had to swing my arms all over the place like the demonstrator did.  I would also have to think my arms would get tired after a while.

It's to early to make a final decision about the controller, but my first impression isn't a real good one.

It's okay. Although I don't want gyroscopes or motion detectors in my controller, I'm sure this will be optional for any game that chooses to use it.

I thought the controller was slightly comfortable, but if you use it for a while, yes, I think it can start cramping your hands. The thing that I really hate are the Nintendo fanboys saying "0mfg SONy st0les Wii COnTRoller!1" because tomorrow, I'm gonna go talk w/ my friends, and they will all complain about how they stole the idea (Yes there is always 1+ person that does this in a group). Personally, I don't care about it, lol.

I think the motion sensing capabilities are not worthwhile and will make gamplay too complex. I know I move the controller around while playing as it is, I dont want that to become a part of gameplay. Even though I'm a sony fan they copied the Wii's controller idea and I would like to see more innovation in the design department ( I was a fan of the old PS3 controller concept.)

It would have been nice to see something more along the lines of Logitech's Cordless Action PS2 controller (http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-5266-1169-x-x-x).  It is a much more natural feeling controller, and seems less blocky.  The boomerang controller wouldn't have been bad either.  It's a lot smaller than what people thought (http://www.forz.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/boomerangdebunked.gif).

While it isn't a direct copy of Nintendo's controller, and while Nintendo isn't the first to use the technology, you'd have to be blind to not see that Sony is obviously takinga jab at Nintendo with the tilt sensor. Nintendo was hyping up their unique way of gameplay and Sony simply borrowed from it to steal their thunder. It may not by the "OMG STEALORZ" that everyone is saying, but it still is rather shameless and an attempt to halt Nintendo's treck.

Why wouldn't you be ticked if you were a Nintendo fan? Sony just took the one compelling thing about the Wii away from Nintendo. I don't blame them, even if this is like RC Cola claiming that Coke stole the concept of carbonation from them. That photoshopped PS3 controller / remote would actually be pretty funny if every other word weren't misspelled.

Let's see, you had an innovative controller that set you apart. Whoops, not anymore. At least you still have a rockin' console name. Oh, wait.

The guy who sais that the PS3 controller was a rip of of the "Wii".

You're an idiot. I belive you owe Sony an apology. Sony came out with the PS3 idea way befor any "Wii" ideas came into play. They even state in the conference that it's thier best kept secret. So shut up you effin' noob.

I'm sure the button in the middle is for dashboard like functions, like the xbox 360's buttons works as a quick button to features on the dash. Anyways I don't think the way it's being used is really worth the it. I mean I like controlling my game via analog sticks. I don't know maybe it's just mean, but it didnt' impress me one bit and I think it won't get used as much. Jus my two cents.

Whatever you think of Sony adding motion sensing to the controller, remember that making this kind of functionality more mainstream helps the Wii appear as a less risky target for developers. This is a GOOD thing for BOTH companies; just like rumble was, way back when.
