Wait so its just some special setting for steam, but you still need to hook your pc up your tv. Whats the point of it
It's just a controller/tv friendly layout for steam, for people who game with controllers, on big tvs. I'll probably get it, and use it when my laptop is set up in the living room.

PC gaming on HDTV is not PC gaming ? :?
It is now! didn't you see? It's this brand new exciting feature that our friends at Valve have introduced. Never before could someone simply plug their TV into their video card with an HDMI cord. Never before could someone surf the web or play games on their TV with a controller. Only Valve is innovative enough to bring this feature to PC gaming.I haven't been this excited for PC gaming in a looooong time! I can't wait to play HL3 on my big screen TV with a controller in my hand. PC gaming is looking stronger than ever. Suck it console peasants!SKaREOWow this board has really taken a turn for the worst.
Surprised they didn't just buy up the guy who made Joy2key or other gamepad mapping programs and call it their own. What was wrong with those freewares already on the market (except lack of public awareness)?
This is nice because I always keep my desktop plugged into a TV as a second display (clone image of my primary display) now I can finally ditch the wireless KBM for most things.achilles614

All Steam is doing is getting better support for HDTVs. You don't have to be mad at them lol[QUOTE="MacBoomStick"]do you know any decent TV web browsers? :P i got a logitech revue from google 4 free it's aite"Plus a web browser for the TV that doesn't suck" Wow. That came out of no where.

The PC forum sadly has its fair share of trolls.I am confused with some of these responses. What has changed other than an option to get a nicer display and interface for people who game on large screen hdtv's?

Same. It's just an added feature. If they don't like it, don't use it. Personally, I rarely use my big screen TV for Steam but I think it's about time Steam adds native controller support.I am confused with some of these responses. Videodogg

That's cool, this is also free, for everyone. And it is also way better than just an "aite", which describes your product as incredibly mediocre. Seems to me like Big Picture in this scenario is a win-win.

it web browses fine i just have no use for it also for big picture you have to hook your computer up to the TV i am not complaining about steam big picture i am just saying the logitech revue has a web browser that works fine why you would want to web browse on your tv is another issueIgnore the trolls. That guy is clearly trying to provoke people (his signature says it all).
As for Big Picture, I like the concept, but my PC and monitor are just feet away from my TV anyway, so, there is a degree of redundancy... When I get that HDMI cable and an Xbox 360 controller for my laptop, I might give this a shot on my 26-inch Panasonic TV.

it's also convenient as in you can navigate with a controller and download games and all. if you just plug in your computer you are going to have to use a mouse and keyboard. Also form big picture it seems they are going to force devs to make their games compatible with controller, or at least some of them.it's also convenient as in you can navigate with a controller and download games and all. if you just plug in your computer you are going to have to use a mouse and keyboard. A lot of them already are. Of all the big games that came out recently: Sleeping Dogs, Darksiders, Dark Souls, Max Payne, Diablo, .... Only one of them isn't compatible with controller (or at least I wouldn't play Diablo with a controller).
I doubt valve has to force anyone. Their games already support controllers but who wants to play an online FPS with a controller ?

me controllers are more accurate than mouse and keyboardBig Picture Mode lags for me. When it has stuff loaded (like at the home screen) it's fine, but then I move to the next tab and it takes FOREVER to load.
Wait, big picture is up and running already? cuz im on steam right now and i dont see the Big Picture icon on the menu screen (and i wasnt forced to update when i opened steam)Big Picture Mode lags for me. The difference here is a much more controller freindly interface. and designed for the standard living room where consoles dominate. Nobody cares if you have plugged into your T.V already, so have I big friggin whoops, doesn't change the fact that in a living room it is far from ideal or comfortable unless you go to major lenghts.[QUOTE="R4gn4r0k"][QUOTE="SKaREO"]Lol of all the companies I thought would destroy PC gaming, it's Valve. Steam bing the platform. In case you didn't realize, STEAM generally lacked controller support for most games. People had to resort to using stupid emulator programs, which were incredibly frustrating. Now apparnetly you no longer have to go through that hassle. What is the big deal? Why are you belittling Vavle for finally implementing controller support for their platform? A much needed feature for THEIR PLATFORM?
Oh wait, you're a mentally compromised, self absorbed troll.
Wait, big picture is up and running already? cuz im on steam right now and i dont see the Big Picture icon on the menu screen (and i wasnt forced to update when i opened steam) Click steam tab at top left, settings, then change Beta Participation status. It'll restart steam and there will be a button to turn on big picture at the top right of steam.[QUOTE="ChubbyGuy40"]

I used it a bit last night, its pretty damn cool if you just want to relax on the couch. The web browser is nice if anything for some funny youtube videos when with the lady or friends. Some games start with the controller just fine CS:GO for example (I managed 1st on my team with the controller lol), but for certain games it doesn't automatically switch to the controller even though the game supports it (l4d2, skyrim can't use the controller on the launcher, bioshock) and definitely valve needs to add controller support to the steam library of games. Being just a beta its looking very good, hopefully the full version is even better. Please Log In to post.
