I know this is an old thread, and I have looked at the list casually before. However, looking at it closely.. there are some rankings that I believe should be changed. I'm sure everyone has their own take and opinion on this, some of which will differ from mine. One that I will debate is the positioning of the 8800gts 512 below the 8800gtx. The GTS 512 outperformed the GTX in many games, despite it's memory disadvantage.

Going Wayyyyy back.. No love for the Voodoo Banshee?!! It should be neck and neck with the Voodoo2 here. After all, all it was was an overclocked Voodoo2 with 1 less texture unit, built-in VGA, and 16mb of RAM versus 12. I still have both cards, so I know what I'm talking about! :P And where's the Voodoo Rush?!! Forgot about that one, huh?!

Alright.. one more look over the list confirmed it as pretty sloppy. The "Voodoo3" (who knows which version) ranked above the Voodoo 4 and 5, as well as the Voodoo3 3500 (the most powerful version of it)?!! I have a right mind to re-do the entire list myself.

Is it true that there is no point in having something like a GTX 295...unless you have a 30 inch monitor (or equivalent)? Like someone previously posted with the 1-10: Extreme Performance, 11-36: High Performance, 36-69: Medium Performance, 70+: Low Performance rating of the list...would it be possible to say what the recommended resolutions are for these categories of cards? Just because I guess it would be pointless to get a fantastic card only to use it with a monitor that doesn't really show the difference from a card lower down (and possibly much cheaper). Would appreciate any feedback :)

Just would like to know which card would be more bang for your buck, the 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 4530 , or the 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M. thanks

Great list. I've been using a geforce 7600 GT KO for a few years but it's time to upgrade. I'm have a 2.7ghz Athlon x2 dual core with 2gb of memory and a 500w power supply (running windows xp of course). I've been doing research for a while and have narrowed it down to either an eVGA geforce 9600 GT SSC (I couldn't find the SSC model on the list) or something from the geforce 8800 series, which I noticed were higher on the list, or at least higher than the standard 9600 GT. Which would be better? I want the most bang for my buck (an under $200 if possible), but I also don't want something that'll bottleneck the system. Thanks for any help!

If you're not going to upgrade your CPU, I would recommend getting that 9600GT, or a Geforce 8800GT or 9800GT (same thing)... or maybe a 9800GTX (if you get this, it will leave some headroom for better performance once you do upgrade your CPU). Any 8800 series card newer than the 8800GTS 320mb and 640mb is going to be more powerful than a 9600gt for sure. My last CPU was an AMD X2 @ 2.6ghz, and it was bottlenecking my 8800GTS 512mb. I would even say that a 9600GT will be a little bit bottlenecked, but that is still the sweet-spot for your system if you're keeping that CPU.

elitebastards conclusion:"The biggest issue with this approach is that yes, both XFX's offering here and the GeForce GTX 275 as a whole are faster than its direct rival" the gtx 275 is much faster and btw next time when ur looking for benchmarks, look into some real sites like overclockersclub or guru3d

I'd agree and say that this list may seem biased toward NVIDIA's advantage; however, the host does need proof like a benchmark. Do you have one?

"That said, the GeForce GTX 275 was a great card and in the majority of the benchmarks it was faster than the Radeon HD 4890 and the Radeon HD 4890 OC"

LINK

"Really it depends on what resolutions you're targeting and what the prices end up being. If you've got a 30" display then either card will work, it's just up to your preference and the items we talked about earlier. If you've got a 24" or smaller display (1920x1200 or below), then the Radeon HD 4890 is the card for you."

LINK

"NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 275 romped the Radeon HD 4890 in the synthetic benchmarks"

LINK

"It is clear from the performance figures achieved by the GTX 275 that it is a very desirable product. Throughout our testing the card was often leading the pack and regularly produced higher minimum framerates than the competition."

LINK

Most show even or ever-slightly better performace (GTX275) but don't take my word and have a read.

It's nice to see a none ATI or Nvidia card in the top 100. I wonder where there new 540 GTX would rank. It looks like it's built with a much different mindset than the other top cards. http://www.s3graphics.com/en/products/class3.aspx?productId=19

Hey people not sure just how old the topic is but would like to know where "NVIDIA GeForce 6200 TC 512MB with 128MB On Board with TurboCache" would come in you rank list :) also if someone would be kind enough to find the latest updates for this card that would be nice. Thanks Fyobl

It would probably rank in the 150's or 140's.

And to find the latest drivers just go to nvidia.com Drivers page and select your model and the drivers are there.

i dont know man, i use to have GTX 280 but i think it is all on waiting for new drivers to come out for ati, because my HD 4870 ice q4 gets an average of 95 fps with 1080P resolution and my gtx280 only got around 70. i returned my 1gb version of the hd 4870 iceQ4 for the 512 version and i got a better with my 512 than my 1gb version. it depends on everything else as well. from all the computers i have i swap gpu's to see what runs better with what. dual core intel the 4870 runs the best, with my core i7 extreem runs best with 2 hd 4890s thanthe gtx 280s, i had to use amd cpu with gtx 280 for the best fps while i game. they get around the same fps in most games. of course the i7 i have has the highest fps with ati in all the games i play.

i beg to differ, because i have the gtx 280s and i get better fps with my hd 4890s, i build gaming computers and overall i recomend i7 with ati, and amd cpu with any invidia cards. i have 4 computers and 3 of them are ati computers with intel and one invidia computer with amd cpu.

i run everything from 1080P to 2560X1600, i have a 42" HD LCD and a 30" 2560X1600 monitors. i test all my hardware to the max and the lowest settings, overall i see with all my computers ati and intel get better fps in all games. give me a list of games i can test them on all my computers with what ever game it is you guys want me to test it through. i have 2XHD4890's (about to get a 3rd) 2XGTX280's (about to get a 3rd) 1X HD4870 and HD 4850X2. i do not trust online reviews on cards, because all they do is when they release and without the new drivers, i have noticed invidia dosnt update as offen as ati. ati from what i have seen through my computers with the new drivers have given me an extreem boost in fps in virtualy EVERY game.

Even 3 year old games lag on my 4890 when I put more than 4xAA. False.

I have no issues with my 4890. Sounds like a driver issue. My 4890 pretty much slaugthers everything I throw at it with a 1440x900 resolution.

[QUOTE="halokillerz"]

[QUOTE="ADVIL87"] one of my friends keeps telling me 4890 is better and so he used this review to back up his opinion...Slig0

the 4890 is better in some games, but this review basically says that the 275 is better so i don't know how your friend is really using it to back up his opinion:?
sure the 4890 blows the 275 when it comes to 8x AA but i dont think u need 8x or higher.

Even 3 year old games lag on my 4890 when I put more than 4xAA. False.

yeah dont take my word for it, i was just going off the review.

I have the Sapphire 4890 OC edition card, it is really a top notch graphics card. I mean a few months ago I almost gave up in PC gaming. I was going to just about buy a PS3 or Xbox 360.

But I changed my mind, primarily due to the great graphics of Crysis and then PC has always been in my heart. When I bought the 4890 from ebay 2 months ago, I was stunned!!!Cos my old Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 512 MB was crap. It ran all the games but it lagged like hell. I was forced to play every game on 1024x768 resolution.

But with the 4890 OC card, running games like Assassins Creed went so smooth full 1920x1200 resolutions. The atmosphere is stunning. tHe stoned floors are so realistic. Photo realistic. Not a single bit of lag. I also put anti aliazing to 8-16. I haven't experienced a single slow down.

I played the racing game rFactor special Edition 2008 although a bit old. But the physics were amazing on that game. The wheels were so round and accurate texture of the cars. The sky is amazing.

Playing it on a 24 inch samsung HD monitor. I could not be any happier than this!:D

What can I say, if I knew that a graphics card was gonig to be the solution, I wouldn't have even been thinknig of buying a console.
