Try SMAA, or for better performance, FXAA.

Man I'm now curious how it'll run for me when I get the 2nd 670 next week just before my birthday!

[QUOTE="mitu123"]

[QUOTE="Elann2008"] vsync and triple buffering are the devil in online FPS's. Its very noticeable in BF3.Elann2008

I hope you are using D3D Overrider and not Nvidia's worthless Triple Buffering because Nvidia's triple buffering is not for D3D games, only OpenGL.

in online fps, I don't use vsync/tb. I always try to maintain 80fps and up. In those 64 player matches and big maps, it helps when the framerate dips, so that it doesnt dip below 60.

Oddly enough I can handle below 60FPS, but I want it over 40FPS though.

I generally try to avoid vsync for MP FPS games, but I've found it to not have much of an effect in BF3, I can play well with it off or on. For single player FPS games, I do really prefer having vsync on because screen tearing is more noticeable when I'm taking my time and playing the SP, as opposed to running around like nuts in MP. I'm a little disappointed in that it seems everyone is reporting that any AA options above 2x SMAA in the Crysis 3 beta have a significant performance impact. TXAA does indeed look nice, but seriously if the performance hit is not that much less than MSAA then I really don't see the point of developing it. It would be a great option if it had a small performance hit over FXAA, but it seems thats not the case so far in all the games that have utilized it. Nowadays I really avoid MSAA because its just not worth it for the ridiculous performance hit (unless you have enough overhead where it doesn't matter). Little weird that SMAA 4x seems to make a substantial hit too. Is 4x uses MSAA as well (sorta like TXAA)? People are reporting that 2x SMAA performs well, so its curious. Looks like I will be going with either SMAA 2x, or FXAA. I really don't mind FXAA so it wouldn't be that big of a deal to me. Still would have liked to see TXAA be playable. Maybe they can improve it from the beta...

They both take very little to run so that's about right.

MSAA and TXAA are dogs on performance

Using GTX 560 at 1680x1050 running it on high setting with playable framerate with 310.70 drivers. I'll try these new drivers later on and see if I see a difference.

Then I don't understand what the point of TXAA is? It performs like crap in AC3 as well. Isn't it akin to just running MSAA + FXAA or some other post process AA? I thought the point of TXAA was to provide better visuals than FXAA with a mildly higher performance hit...but it seems like that performance hit is barely less than MSAA in every game that has used TXAA so far. Pointless. Looks like SMAA will be the best option for Crysis 3. I hope it becomes a driver option sometime soon (not sure if development is tied to AMD though?)

It's combining MSAA with another filter, and MSAA is already a hog on performance. That should tell you something. FXAA is just the filter overlaid on the screen, hence why it blurs the entire image. TXAA takes a good bit more than FXAA to run.

SMAA is the best AA method around for the results. MSAA achieves the least amount of jaggies but runs like total ass. FXAA blurs the screen too much. SMAA is just right.

I think I'll skip this beta driver. It's not showing up on Nvidia website for GTX 580, but I followed the link Mitu linked on page 4 and they worked (I downloaded it), but I probably won't be using it after what happened with SeanMc PC lol. I didn't mean to laugh at your expense!

Using the new beta drivers and a GTX670/2500k combo I get 60-80fps on very high with medium SMAA.

Mutliplayer itself is pretty bad, it takes bunny hopping to a new extreme. I was laughing myself silly while bunny-hopping around the crash site with a shotgun while like 4 enemies tried to kill me and I got them one by one cause you can shoot the shotgun pretty accurately mid-air.

Really? I only tried one map, but I was getting 45ish FPS on Very High with medium SMAA (2x). I have the same combo as you. I tried each AA mode, and once you hit SMAA high things take a big hit. High SMAA, TXAA and MSAA seem out of the question if you want to run above 30fps. SMAA looks considerably better than FXAA. I think the version of FXAA they have is really good though, no noticeable blurring at all...it actually might be a little too light, still some aliasing with it enabled. SMAA 2x seems like the best compromise right now.

Lots of people have reported similar issues on the official forum.

AMD released beta drivers as well though:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst132betadriver.aspx

  • Improves performance up to 15% in high MSAA cases for the Crysis 3 beta release
    • Future updates will be made to AMD Catalyst 13.2 Beta to further improve performance in Crysis 3 for both single GPU and CrossFire configurations

My game crashes a lot upon launching the game. Then, it just works. Anyways, these are my settings and average framerate as measured by fraps:

Setup: i5 2500K@4.2GHz, GTX 680@1346MHz, +450 memory, 8GB RAM (1866Mhz), W7 64bit

FRAPS average:

Airport: 74fp/s, 50-91 range

Museum: 72fp/s, 49-90 range

And with these settings:

8427307901_5b4c846ff1_z.jpg

8427309353_18f3a66dfa_z.jpg

FRAPS average:

Airport: 55fp/s, 40-60 range

Museum: 46.9fp/s, 33-62range

Are you using the latest drivers? I've got my stuff OC'd a bit but nothing that would give me that big of an increase in performance compared to you. I tested on both maps, for the first 30 seconds of the match my frame rate was in the high 40's low 50's but then it would jump above 60 and stay there.

Also I should mention that I'm only playing at 1600x900.

Those shots look great, when I played it maxed otu it didn't look as good as that though strangely. Game is alright, it's just horrendously laggy and unresponsive and hit detection is a total joke. It's almost impossible to take seriously and there is so much luck involved in it

It's very much similar to Crysis 2 MP, which I actually enjoyed. My problem is that I can't record the game in FRAPS video without it dipping into 5fp/s-10fps/s, even at half resolution, and 30fp/s settings. Did you enable the Very High textures?

Fraps sucks. Use Dxtory. It's far more flexible and doesn't kill your system like fraps. Then again a good CPU is always necessary regardless

I myself bought a capture card for recording. Doesn't drop frames at all and is the exact same as not recording

It's been a long time since I upgraded my graphics card which I'm never inclined to do without a good reason.

In other words, Crysis 3 will have to be pretty amazing beyond just high-tech graphics in order to justify forking out for a new card. I'm playing Far Cry 3 high end at the moment so it doesn't look promising.

I used fraps, my bulldozer CPU handles it suprisingly well, it never has the big drops like on my previous intel or amd cpus. My computer has never gotten along with DXtory though, it seems to hate my hard drive, there isn't a in game framerate drop but the recordings themselves are always at 15-20fps no matter what i try

Fraps sucks. Use Dxtory. It's far more flexible and doesn't kill your system like fraps. Then again a good CPU is always necessary regardless

I myself bought a capture card for recording. Doesn't drop frames at all and is the exact same as not recording

Only reason I loved Dxtory was the ability to play at one framerate and record at 30. Fraps it's locked together. Also Dxtory supports way better codecs for smaller files with the same quality. I loved Dxtory, but my Avermedia card handles everything now flawlessly. Recorded a 42 minute video before and it was only like 3 GB :P

I don't have any overclocks, though I doubt it would cause your increased performance. I also have the beta drivers. Its most definitely your resolution. I'm playing at 1920x1080, so that would accound for the difference. Still runs smooth at 45ish fps, unlike Far Cry 3 which is a stuttering mess if anywhere under 60fps.

I'm pretty sure FXAA is bugged too. It looks no different from AA disabled to me. SMAA 1x is noticeably different. The best setting is still SMAA medium (2x), as its about 1-2 fps different than SMAA low, but looks smoother.

Wow, I actually enjoyed it more than Crysis 2's MP beta!

Wow I'm glad I came on here and saw that there are drivers for the GTX 690. I am only at 30 fps right now @ 2560x1440.

While the performance on very high was crap, I set it to medium and the game ran much better. The game, even on medium is georgous. Wow I can't believe how good the graphic are.

I ended up setting it on high with 1xSMAA. Get aboug 40-60 FPS.

The graphics are fantastic and the game is very smooth and responsive. It's much better than Crysis 2 ever was.

Hunter mode is quite a bit fun.

Any high-res screenshots? I was just playing it a little bit earlier, on max settings, and I'm really disappointed. The graphics really aren't that good! I'm surprised how weak they are actually. Maybe the singleplayer will look better. The performance wasn't very good either, but playable. Haven't updated my drivers yet.

Will those drivers come out for the 500 series? The game runs pretty smoothly. I can put it on Medium or High and run at a fairly steady 30 FPS. I'm not sure about the hunter mode though. Also, does anyone feel the suit is kind of superfluous now? Its streamlined to the bone so that you're really not activating much anymore.

[QUOTE="Elann2008"]I think I'll skip this beta driver. It's not showing up on Nvidia website for GTX 580, but I followed the link Mitu linked on page 4 and they worked (I downloaded it), but I probably won't be using it after what happened with SeanMc PC lol. I didn't mean to laugh at your expense!04dcarraher

I got it for my GTX 560, it smoothed things out quite abit.

Thanks! :D I'll try it out now!

These news drivers are working amazing for me. Maxed out Crysis 3 maintaining over 30 fps, maxed out BF3 multiplayer above 60 fps. I'm going to try Far Cry 3 now.. if I can max that out above 60 fps I'll be pretty happy.

Edit: Damn I can finally max out FC3 at 60 fps! And this time I don't have it still in Dx9, when I thought it was in Dx11.. like last time. :P
