Ah, so a GTX 970 OC (I assume) gets close to 680 SLI. Hmm.. Full Maxwell should do the trick then :D

Yeah I know just abit worried about blowing something, All manual clocks.

Software that came with graphics card suck and motherboard clocking utility in bios is a nest of complexity (well is for me at moment)

@supergokublitz: Just use MSI afterburner

It gives you the temperature as well. But really damaging it by heat is difficult these days. They will down clock by themselves.

Play around with stock voltage clocks first. You can not damage your GPU while it's @ stock voltage.
Once you feel more comfortable, turn the voltage up a bit and get your clocks a little higher.

Asus GPU Tweak works fine, and the easiest to use for basic overclocking.

Set Boost clock to 1400mhz

Set Memory clock to 7700mh

Power Target 110%

Hit apply and boom 100% stable

I hit about 1463 Boost Clock, and 7800 memory and start artifacing.

Sometimes nVidia themselves have also set higher voltage limit than the ones they use. At least the GTX 680 has a step or two up in voltage already set by nVidia, but are disabled.

It also depends on the brand.

I was given a Asus GTX 960 Strix by my wife... She didn't know that I replaced my GTX 780 Ti that died with a R9 270 and also I don't have the heart to tell her that its not really much of a upgrade over the R9 270. Took it smiled and gave her a hug.

So guess now upgrading to GTX 980 Ti is going to be harder than I thought., Anyway here are the results for Firestrike: 7263.

The card runs at 62 c at 8 GHz memory clock and 1360 MHz core clock but when running Firestrike the core clock was at 1550 MHz.

Marry her again. She's a keeper.

She was a keeper when I first saw her playing Pokemon in the university library... With that said I really don't want to do the whole wedding thing again, seriously f*** that.

Played around a bit more and was able to FINALLY squeeze 11K in FireStrike with a single R9 290. This is as far as she can go on air.

These cards sure do overclock, even without raising core voltages. I could still probably raise both core and memory speeds before reaching the limit but I can't be bothered. They're plenty fast already :P

With new Titans on the horizon I decided to go ahead and overclock these Blacks a little. Looking at the scores that folks with 900 series cards are getting, I can probably go a lot further. I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend!

Finally! I thought, you'd never uncover the power of those beasts.

Yup. I did manage to add 10 more to the memory, so 410. But I haven't posted that yet. Trying to find the max. I do wish the powerlimit was higher on this card. Slider only goes to 110% so thats what is stopping me from getting to 1500mhz on the core. But a bios could change that... I'll need to look into it.

@horgen: You may want to look at that list again for firestrike... You put my 7k score in 9k mark. The GTX 960 doesn't overclock that well :(

:(... Well I am still extremely pleased that the GTX 960 is not only getting great results while in benchmarks but also gaming, Its a lot faster than the R9 270 and pretty much on par with the performance I had with my old GTX 680. Very pleased indeed.

Still want a GTX 980 Ti... But by the time that hits the shelves chances are we will be so close to a new nm generations that it would be foolish to get another a 28nm GPU.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Yeah it is very close to the GTX 680... At least in this bench, so I would assume so in gaming too.

It goes alright for most of the time. Then randomly I either mess up or a mini boss shows up and destroy me.

Hey guys, just got my EVGA 970 FTW edition along with 4670k and 8 gigs of ram (for now). Is this a good score for a 970? The score varies from 12,500 to 12,700.

Yeah that is in the normal range I believe.
