This election has really come down to being nothing more then an episode of political "Big Brother"
Obama has blown a 14 point lead to McCain over the course of two months, and love her or hate her Sarah Palin has all of us talking about Miss Alaska's, Teen Pregnancies, and Troopergate that less then a week after Obama's historic speech in Denver no one is talking about it.
The front page of celeb mags like US and People are splashed with pictures of Palin wearing a tight leather mini, or her holding a machine gun.
McCain's VP is dominating the "gossip" and "celeb" mags, while leaving Obama to have to battle it out on policy and experience with McCain.
I think 18 months of Obama-Mania was just too much for folks,
Unless there is a major gaf, I think McCain will pull it off as he has the momentum.

Agreed. In the end of the day, its politics.
McCain, the economy is already doing much better than a few months ago, the dollar is getting stronger, and its pretty clear that we are or are going to be out of this recession very soon. Plus you don't vote democrat if you want the economy to be stronger, less government control more power to businesses, thats what makes our economy stronger. and universal healthcare, where's that going to come from? o yeah, pretty much everyone except those in poverty, McCain needs to win. also the war on terror is going extremely well now, Iraq actually took over control of the Anbar province recently, which was the most dangerous province for a U.S. soldier to be in, so its likely that no matter who becomes president, we will have a troop withdrawl during their period of office. so, hey maybe Obama can be McCains official orrator, considering that's all he's good at.ShadowFlood
psst. you know that oil is down for the election right? ;) it happens a lot that way and helps the incumbent party which just happens to be the party of big oil.
as for a stronger economy. you know that job growth in the 8 years of Clinton was 22.7million while for Bush have been 5.8million. also the national debt dipped during Clinton while under Bush it's at record highs and pushed passed it's own caps twice. So forgive me when i'm skeptical about your democrats are bad for the economy rhetoric.
Military is just as important as the economy. Obama wants to cut and run. If you vote for a democrat, you vote for big government with massive socialistic spending. Republicans are for less government. Heck, most issues are above Obama's pay grade, including an unborn babies life for god sake. Obama is against gun rights and hangs out with anti-government radicals like his former pastor.stupiddk
Obama proposed a drawn down and the departure from Iraq with a timeline. This is actually what the Iraqi government want as well. They want us out of there. Guess what? The Bush administration has now (finally)agreed to that as well. Oh and remember when Obama said that if we have actionable intelligence on targets in the mountains of Pakistan that we should take unilateral action and how McCain bashed him for it? This while McCain said he'd go through the gates of hell to get Bin Laden? Just not to Pakistan it seems. So no I don't think he's weak on military. He's just not a hothead.
also this Republicans are for less government line is old. that's not what the party is today. Where's the fiscal responsibility that I envisioned when i registered republican over a decade ago? the neo cons run this party and there's been more ear marks during the republican head congress than any other before it. also tax breaks while going to war? borrowing like mad? largest debt and deficits in history? sorry, but I want the republican party of old. not this one.
Obama's timeline of a brigade a monthshows that he has no idea what so ever about military matters. A brigade a month is several thousand troops. This man has no clue about what is pruedent in Iraq or in any military situation what so ever. McCain understands what to do. The surge he advocated worked, and drew down violence. So what does Obama do? He wants to lessen the amount of troops in Iraq considerably instead of continuing to fight the insurgents.
And Neo-Cons? Seriously? That's exactly why John McCain, Maverick Republican Extrodinare, is the one running for President for the Republican party. Sure, Bush hasn't been great, but McCain is no Bush, and is not a earmark type of person.
By the way, that Congress you're talking about is Democrat dominiated and currently has the lowest approval rating EVER in the history of the United States. Excuse me if I don't want to give that same party a chance at the presidency.

did you know that the lessening of violence is credited more to the Sunni Awakening movement and how they turned away for Al Qaeda which took place before the surge?
as for the withdrawal. it's a 16 month plan which Prime Minister al-Maliki and other Iraqi leaders have also said. It's time for the Iraqi government to step in and they believe they can do it. there's less cause for insurgence if we're not there.
You know i used to think that about McCain back in 2000 and 2004. He was against many of the Bush policies that he now favors. so i don't think i can trust him anymore.
sure this congress has low approval. and it's because they didn't do yet what most americans wanted them to do. (getting out)
BObama has a lead as of now and this whole Palin thing doesn't seem to be giong to well.
I think right now the election would be decided by Virginia which both candidates are locked in a dead tie. But by popular vote Obama has a huge (several points) advantage right now.
I think McCain will for a few reasons:
1. Obama has to unite democrat voters. He's done a good job, but there's still a gap between him and others, and if those don't show at the polls, it could get lopsided.
2. Palin was brought in to appeal to women, appeal to the republican party's stances, and to strip away Obama's celebrity status and media coverage for a while. Most likely 2 out of 3, with women voters from the Hillary compaign simply not voting at all instead of voting McCain. Still a very big plus for McCain.
3. Obama has young voters who are historically sketchy.

clinton didn't have to go through a massive world wide inflation triggered by the attacks on the world trade center. thats not to say he wasn't a good president(despite his family issues)

 Yeah
How is Palin going to be VP if she can't control her daughter from becoming preggy?
You're kidding....right?No, she also has a son with down syndrome, she has her hands full already. Sorry, but she also has no experience what so ever. I can go on about McCain's decsion all night....
She has a husband to take care of her kids, I don't see how she has her hands full.I think she is a horrible choice for VP but your statement is pretty dumb.
the palin thing is actually good for the maccain camp because obama had been hogging practically all the media attention. any publicity is good publicity i guess and seeing as how obama himself said to leave family out of politics(i'm guessing to protect his own wife), mccain has an edge. if he can focus more on the economy and how the US has practically won the war in iraq after the surge, and also remind people of 9/11 and the organizations responsible for it mccain will have this in the bag come novembershakmaster13
It's true, publicity of any kid grabs attention away from Obama's key characteristic: Charisma.
It's true the Iraq war is getting better, but bringing up 9/11 and the people responsible won't accomplish anything. It would be beside the point, considering McCain's reluctance to pursue Osama Bin laden and the lack of focus on the troubled Afghanistan...the place USA originally went to weed out terrorists. The place housing people much more responsible for 9/11 than Iraq.

Aye. it's fairly sexist to say that she "has her hands full". If she was a man, no one would be questioning.
After Fred Thomsons amazing speech last night, and the Republican Nation Convention in full swing, and the fact Obama is supported by the younger Generation who through the years have proved unreliable on Voting day, I'm definitely saying McCain. Eventually Obama's Celeb Status will die down when the debates come. Obama CANNOT speak unless he's scripted, when he isn't scripted he's destined to fail.ferrari2001
Thomson's speech sucked. Who the hell's bright idea was to let that guy on stage?!! He's like a fat, nasty iguana.

What ever I spent the last half of the speech yelling "BURN" because of the Awesome things he was saying, It was awesome. Plus his touching PoW story was really great..

What, you mean the one where he bluntly stated McCain used to date an "exotic dancer"?
OH MAN, really? Shall we drudge up Obama's dating past?
Seriously, that is low. There is no problem, at all, with dating an exotic dancer.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. Let the man date who he wants.
Still, I couldn't be the only person wondering what that little factoid was doing in Fred Thompson's speech.

umm there's really nothing wrong with that? A man can date who ever he wants it doesn't change his ability to lead or to make decisions. Plus I'm pretty sure McCain hasn't dated an exotic dancer any time recently.

Well, let's just say you told me some unknown person was dating an exotic dancer. My immediate reaction would be to assume that person is a shallow idiot.
I hope Obama wins so he can build up the bad reputation the US has gotten from the rest of us in the world.TreflisI am canadian, but I agree. He clearly stated at the DNC that he would not approach the old conflict the same way as usual. Someone like would have done something better for Osettia with the kind of speech skills he got.
I see in Obama, someone in the like of Martin Luther King.
[QUOTE="paradigm68"]I want Obama and Biden to win, but Mcain and Palin will win...RedgarlNot from the polls... and with all the fuzz about Palin, the chances are really slim that McCain could actually win.
That's a lie, the polls won't be accurate until at least a few weeks before the election, and Obama had his boost from the Convention, the GOP started last night so McCain has yet to get his boost from it, so the polls are absolutely worthless at this moment. It's pretty much a dead tie and is anyone's game at the moment. I don't think even the smartest analists can tell until almost the day of the election.

Or there could be no boost... 7 to 8 % is not a tie...Coverage from the RNC (Republican National Convention)
Thompson: John McCain has character, he has been to war, his family all-around has experience in war, McCain is going to win.
Liberman: It dosen't matter who's party you belong to, it's about who you think is better for your country.
That's all that I got to watch. But, Palin was the Alaskan Governer. If you had a governer as VP every day, things would go pretty smooth. Her kids can live on their own now.
Let's just put it this way.
Obama's Name: Barack Hussain Obama

Yeah, We here in Norway is wondering when the US will be all " So Norway got oil...Uh I mean Weapons of Mass Destruction?"Thanks to Bush and his policy.
And it saddens me cause, the majority of Americans I actually know and see on the internet, even here on Gamespot seems to be tired of being viewed that way by the rest of the world and it's just because of their President that they are.
Then you have those that would probably send me death threats, Yes I've gotten a whole bunch actually on other forums, just because I say this.

Yes, and now imagine that you were at least informed enough about the name due to having read it enough times in at least the context of that or the former Iraqi dictator to at least know how to spell it right. Imagine that.

Who cares what his name is? If he was muslim would that bother you?
I personally think that people should not consider religion when it comes to election. I would rather have a muslim for president than another christian. I mean look where bush got us >_>

that is true, but if Obama were to win the popular vote by that much there would be no question that he would win the election...Gore lost because of electoral college but he had a less than 1% win in the popular vote
however it doesn't even really matter, they were practically tied in the polls until the Democratic convention so clearly the boost is from that and the polls are going to remain pretty meaningless until at least after the first debates

It might be Obama though it is hard to say. Mavericks shouldn't be in a place of power just look what happened to those poor people when Sigma was in power (yes this is still gamespot so I felt it proper to make the Mega Man X joke.)
