OT, do you know of any band that may or may not be relatively famous, but isn't famous enough given the quality of their songs?

My personal pick is the 'Pixies' - I love their (few) albums, and very few people know of them. Kurt C., from Nirvana, said they had a huge influence in Nirvana's music - and that 'Smells like Teen Spirit' was their attempt to sound as close to the 'Pixies' as possible.

For those of you unacquianted:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCD14IrOcIs&feature=related.

Honorable mention to 'The Velvet Underground'. As I said, these aren't obscure bands, they just aren't as known as some other popular bands.

Do you mean to say "Three Days Grace" is stupid or something? If so,that's offensive. And Lights isn't even a band,or popular.

The Who can never get enough praise. Never heard LaRoux or The Kinks, though (have heard of, but not actually listened to them).

Nobody gives a hoot about death metal unless it was a band that's famous for being offensive, a la Cannibal Corpse.

With that statement, Atheist. Possibly the most influential of technical/progressive death metal bands alongside Death. And no one outside the community knows about them.

Bands that do not spend on advertising are always like that.

Most of the "bands" I listen too aren't known to people who don't listen to hardcore either.

I'm not a big fan of metal, so I can't judge that :P. I like Slayer, Anthrax, Iron Maiden... and that's it.

Because the organizers of one of my trips thought it would have been such a f***ing brilliant idea to see dem nerds dance, I HAD to dance to that useless song.

Considering I already find the song annoying myself, when we had to stage the dance in front of two hundred people I was like "I want my mommy  "

Lowlife - First found about this band while searching for the Death song of the same name. An amazing dream pop band but practically unknown

This Mortal Coil - Another amazing dream pop/gothic rock group

Solitude Aeturnus - One of the best doom metal bands

Pink Turns Blue/Clan of Xmymox - Darkwave awesomeness

Red House Painters - Most depressing music I've ever heard. And its awesome, so much emotion in every song and Mark is a lyrical genius

Fen - Atmospheric Post-Black Metal

Too many people see the costumes and write them off as a gimmick. If that was true they wouldn't have last 20+ years. Admittedly they've had some mediocre albums, but also some real gems.

By recognition I'm guessing you mean mainstream attention. I can't really think of any bands that get less of that recognition than they "deserve" because pretty much my favorite bands have never really aimed for mainstream attention in the first place.
