Gorguts

Disgorge

Inquisition

Esoteric

Macabre

Terrorizer

Temnozor

Watchmaker

Wyrd

Peste Noire

Lurker of Chalice

Seconding Esoteric. I was shocked when there was a thread on the Metal Archives about their new album and hardly anyone had listened to them before. Another one is Pavor, the only death metal band I'm a real fan of. Gorguts and Peste Noire are pretty well known.

[QUOTE="eggdog1234"][QUOTE="ArmoredCore55"][QUOTE="SaintWalrus"] All those bands are well known.

Thin Lizzy. They are straight up hall of fame material and influenced an ungodly amount of bands that came after them.

Such an amazing band. :)

The Fall of Troy I think is a very talented band, that never got to the level of fame they should have! Favorite hardcore band.

Cage the Elephant.

Everyone knows Ain't No Rest For the Wicked but beyond that they never really blew up like they should have. They are probably the best pop rock act out there (besides Muse that is) and their last album is seriously one of the best albums released in YEARS!

Songs that people should hear by them:

In One Ear

Shake Me Down (one of the best music vids ever)

Judas

Japanese Buffalo

Around My Head

I am not a fan of the rest of their catalog but A Storm in Heaven is a wonderful album. I also am a fan of The Church, I got to seem them a few years ago and they were great. Calexico however is right where they should be imo.

Aqua... unfortunately most people only know them for "Barbie Girl".Aquat1cF1sh

Only post in this thread with any credibility as far as I'm concerned, too many people are just posting bands they like that they supposedly don't see others talking about, but they get plenty of recognition. Aqua, however, are a great band that are ignored simply because of a song or two, but have a quality catalogue.

I think they are fantastic. Been getting into them a lot recently. The Blurred Crusade and Heyday are my favorite albums of theirs so far. Here are some more bands that dont get as much recognition.

Diablo Swing Orchestra

THe Dear Hunter

Curve

Crowded House

XTC

THe Creatures

Orange Juice

THe Divine Comedy

Penguin Cafe Orchestra

Todd Rundgren- Does he count? He's been around for ages but I dont hear him brought up much.

Lemon Jelly

Okkervil RIver

Everything but the girl

Galaxie 500

Gazpacho

The Go Betweens

Pineapple Thief

Mark Lanegan and Sceaming Trees

Icicle Works

Robyn Hitchcock

Longpigs

Hum

The Pop Group

House of love

Mazzy Star

The House of Love is a great choice. My first ever gig too :P

And of course Mr Lanegen is awesome too - just a little bleak for some people I think. The Screaming Trees were equally awesome (and perhaps a little less pessimistic about life too)

I hvaen't heard the Gutter Twins - worth checking out I take it? The only collaboration I've heard are the 2 Soulsavers albums which I quite like, although not as much as his solo work and the ST's.

Screaming Trees were good, I only really got into Sweet Oblivion (I loved that album for a time though). I would check out the Twilight Singers stuff before the Gutter Twins. The Gutter Twins are just Dulli/Lanegan live basically, The Twilight Singers are Dulli's band and Mark is often showing up and when he makes an appearance on those albums its classic. This is probably my favorite of the Dulli/Lanegan Twilight Singers stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMWCnRCzRCk

Whilst I'm here I'll throw in a couple of oldies:

New Fast Automatic Dafodils

The Young Gods

Thee Hypnotics

New Model Army

Head Of David

Silverfish

Senseless Things

The Pastels

Birdland

EDIT: I'll throw in The God Machine as well. They were awesome live but never really got anywhere unfortunately.

ANOTHER EDIT: Gaye Bykers On Acid - specifically their Stewed to the Gills album.

And whilst well known/revered, I've yet to hear of them around these here boards: The Small Faces

Sweet Oblivian was their masterpeice IMO - I caught them in 92 and they were awesome live and played a fair amount off that album.

Just checked out the link - very morose (would I have expected anything else). Sounds interesting and not too disernable from his solo work. I actually just had a quick listen to a couple of Gutter Twins tunes and it sounds pretty interesting too - a little more upbeat/accessible and a little more spacious than ML's solo stuff which can sound a little... claustraphobic.

*shakes fist* wish I could've seen the Trees. I have seen the Twilight Singers but mark was not with them. My brother got a chance to see the Gutter Twins not too long along and said that Greg and Mark just got hammered on stage the whole show (shouldn't expect anything else though).

Haha indeed I can imagine he'd get pretty smashed. Mark played down here (in Melbourne) a few weeks back but I missed out unfortunately. The ST's were awesome - they were actually very jovial, throwing jokes out into the crowd (or at least the 2 big guys on the wires were anyway). Have you got ML's latest album? I haven't heard that either - been too busy getting other stuff.

Radiohead. Yeah, they have a dedicated fanbase but seeing how good their albums are you expect them to be a bit more popular, instead of "OH EM GEE, CREEP!"

Lowlife - First found about this band while searching for the Death song of the same name. An amazing dream pop band but practically unknown

This Mortal Coil - Another amazing dream pop/gothic rock group

Solitude Aeturnus - One of the best doom metal bands

Pink Turns Blue/Clan of Xmymox - Darkwave awesomeness

Red House Painters - Most depressing music I've ever heard. And its awesome, so much emotion in every song and Mark is a lyrical genius

Fen - Atmospheric Post-Black Metal

SteverXIII
Thank God they're not known then. Depressing music for the loss.

I'm sure they're better known in the UK, but the US just doesn't understand trip hop and I don't think we ever will.

Had a little peek and the new album sounds (from what little I've heard) a little more upbeat for Mark. I'll purchase tomorrow, maybe with a little gutter twins as well for the fuk of it. I'll give you the lowdown once I've given it a full aural butchers :)
