Why is sonic such a big deal?

Once apon a time, he was easily as big a deal as Mario is still, or Solid Snake and Master Chief are today.

I really hope Brawl is the stepping stone for him to steal back the iconic staus he once had.

PLEASE sega, drop Sonic Team and let Ninty have a go!

whenever the majority of fans want something like sonic and hype keeps building up and they finally get what they want, the next few days will be nothing but sonic discussion. i really don't care. i wouldn't mind if he was either in.. or not in the game at all.

I agree, he was ok in the original sonic games for sega genisis and such, but nintendo should have put their money to better uses, like making a new character or game instead of renting sonic from sega.

Playground school fights have broken outon "who's cooler" "who's tougher" and what games (back then) were better. Both weresome of the most iconic characters of ANY mediumthat decade andthis decade (to some extent).

No one could predict in the 90's that Mario and Sonic would be in the same game. It's like Master Chief starring in KillZone or Crash Bandicoot. So when both characters star in the same FIGHTING game, it rekindles the rivalry and bittersweet relationship between the characters and finally decide "Who's better". *cough*mario*cough*

People tend to forget Sonic was a HUUUUGE part of Nintendo's history, just not part of Nintendo's library. Still, all the better Sonic games now arrive on Nintendo's handhelds, and who can forget Sega's Gamecube love?

The Sonic games up till and including Sonic Cd were awesome!

But I hate Sonic's new image and his unbelievably irritating voice.

But I can't help but love him for what he used to be.

Why would that make nintendo want to adopt sonic? i just lost more respect for him, though i didn't have much to begin with

i know how they should make the SSBB commercials

they should do it like the original game 1s with yoshi, DK, pikachu and mario duking it out but this time animated

and start like you remember the rivalry (clips of old nintendo and sega footage of the 90s)

and now we finally have the fight who will win MARIO VS. SONIC in the ultimate showdown (clip of mario and sonic meeting face to face in the battlefield)

and then cut to some gameplay footage of mario and sonic kicking the crap out of each other and using their final smashes

and finish withjointhe brawl only on nintendo wii 02.10.08

The reson Sonic is such a big deal being in SSBB is because you now have the two biggest icons in Video Game history in one. Yes I know, Mario Vs. Sonic at the Olympics is released before but you will also have Sonic in a game with Link, Samus, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc. Mario, Link, Samus, and Sonic (and a few others like Kirby) are well established figures in video games. Master Chief has been in a total of 3 games (and still sucks in my opinion). SSBB is the first game in its series that is truely going to feature the best of the best. The best gaming franchise figures of ALL-TIME. The only one that will probably left out is Mega Man but really Mega Man has gone downhill and pathetic with that whole Zero thing.

The fact that Nintendo is allowing so many 3rd party characters into SSBB is a great sign for the future of Nintendo as it may open doors for more 3rd party compinies. Of course many have expressed concern about the Wii, even as to date (idiots). But the fact is that a game on the Wii WILL NOT USE motion controls, SSBB will not use it, and this should show third party companies that as long as you produce a quality game, you do not have to rely on motion sensoring.

That is why Sonic is big because it shows Nintendo's willingness this generation to open up to third party companies and that they do not have to follow the Wii specifics exactly. That and Sonic is the man.

Sonic is so iconic. I grew up playing Sonic games and so did many other gamers. Plus hes a huge, blue, talking hedgehog.

If I may add, Jet uttered that exact phrase from SatAM. In my opinion, that old phrase (from a show that only a few who loved the show, me included, remembered) brought back what Sonic truely is.

I could not agree more. Although recent Sonic games have sucked he is still a huge icon and having both Sonic and Mario in the same game will draw both fans of Sonic and Mario. Optusnet has said everything that I would have said and more. I totally agree.
