Sonic Returns to DS with Sonic Rush Adventure

Sprinting from a chasing orca was fun on the Dreamcast almost 10 years ago, but Sonic Team's made a strong argument that Sonic and friends aren't suited for 3D. Gamers pining for something a little more nostalgic should be happy to know Sega's green lit a sequel to the surprisingly well-received (and 2D, mind you) Sonic Rush on the Nintendo DS, Sonic Rush Adventure.
Sonic Rush Adventure arrives sometime this fall with the ****c side-scrolling gameplay, and so far it doesn't seem to be shoving in a bunch of playable side-characters. It's all about Sonic, baby, and this version even incorporates support for Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection, allowing players to compete in racing and mission gameplay modes online.
The boss battles are still fought in a pseudo-3D environment, however, and Sega says the touch screen elements will be increased this time around. Most likely they're referring to the vehicles that Sonic and Tails will be piloting in-between stages, as they track down a series of pirates that are causing trouble for Sonic's buddies.

I'm glad to hear that Sonic Team recognizes that their blue icon hasn't been running too well in 3D. So seeing this news is a good sign that we'll be getting more quality Sonic games the way it used to be. Sonic Rush was the best Sonic game since Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast so this sequel should be just as good.
