Capcom has worked tirelessly on the latest title in the series, “Monster Hunter 3 (tri-)”, to utilize the unique aspects of the Nintendo Wii, which will create a “Monster Hunter” game unlike any of its predecessors. The attractiveness of the Wii experience is sure not only to please existing fans of the series, but also attract newcomers to this unique adventure. As always, we at Capcom will continue to strive to develop new and original games that appeal to a broad audience around the world while expanding our properties for multiple platforms. We believe that by bringing the “Monster Hunter” series to the Nintendo Wii, it will help the franchise reach an even greater number of users eager for its unique gameplay.Monster Hunter is basically a loot-based adventure dungeon crawler. Set in one main town with a group of hunters, you set out to kick the crap out of dinosaurs and other behemoths, kicking their collective asses with melee or distance attacks (depending on if you’re a gunner or rush-based physical attacker), and then skin and collect objects off the monster you defeated. The more you kill, and the more you “farm” larger animals, the better equipment you can make from their skin, bones, and teeth. It’s a pretty sweet system, and it all revolves around making your specific character – that is 100% customized to your liking – the top hunter in the world. What’s really interesting about the series though, and something that makes me wonder just how the game is going to work on Wii, is its online focus. Players can hop online into a main world with tons of clans full of hunters, and join up in temporary or permanent groups to go on specific hunts and gain material to use either in more online, or back in local play. The PS2 Monster Hunter debuted with keyboard support as well, and even though voice chat wasn’t something I remember being a focus (or even in there, if memory serves), keyboard functionality was included, and it was used by most users in a big way. It was a bit archaic at the time to sit there and type, but it also gave the game this crazy “****c” feel to it. Monster Hunter Freedom and Freedom 2 on PSP weren’t as hot due to a lack of online, but if the series goes back to its roots with Wii, it could be a blast to play with buddies. And since Monster Hunter Wii is the official sequel to the series, making it “Monster Hunter 3” in all respects, I’d expect the series to really shine on the system. After all, the team knows the “last gen” tech that allowed for PS2 and PSP titles, and using the added power of Wii could make it an awesome title for the franchise’s non-Sony debut. As a final quick reality check on the game, just check out a few of the stats we mentioned in our last PSP review for Monster Hunter Freedom 2. The PSP version – which I’d assume will be smaller than what we’d seen in the next official sequel of the series – already included over 250 quests, 70+ monsters, more than 700 weapons, and 1,400 armor types. That’s a lot of customization, and if done right, Monster Hunter 3 has the potential to be the top online Wii title thus far, and easily the deepest third party experience out there. For fans of games like Diablo or even select MMO titles, Monster Hunter has all the potential in the world to be one of your top games on Wii.Monster Hunter is a game where you; *shocker*, hunt monsters. Imagine a sprawling world a la Twilight Princess or Shadow of the Colossus, only there are more than you and your horse. By killing monsters, you skin and clean them, thus earning money to power up and customize your character.Traditionally, there are two different paths of weaponry: blademasters or gunners. Blademasters have five sub-categories: Sword and Shield, Great Swords, Lances, Hammers and Dual Swords. Gunners have two choices: Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun. Giant Cloud-****sword chopping off giant spider limbs? Heck yes. C'mon, who hasn't ever had a dream about killing huge monstrosities with a kick a sword? Also, the selling the parts of the mosters you kill sounds cool. How much do you think some dragon fangs are going to fetch at the local market? quite a bit, I fancy.Monster Hunter 3 will place players on a new field: an unexplored island. This setting appears to offer a lot of variety, from thick forests, to dark caves, all the way to deep underwater environments surrounding the island. While you'll have most of your land-based abilities available to you while underwater, including the ability to use long-range weapons, you'll have to keep one thing in mind when swimming: air. You have an air gauge which depletes with time, similar to your stamina gauge when running about on land. In addition to the water environments, you'll be able to explore dark areas, like caves. To light up your surroundings, you make use of torches. Without torch light, these areas would be too dark for hunting. MH3 will also include brand new monsters. Capcom is approaching this area of the game from a fresh start as well. Fujioka expects that the monsters reappearing from past installments will have a certain freshness about them. One particular creature is getting particular attention. An giant underwater dragon creature, who happens to be known as king of the waters, is the game's main monster, Fujioka revealed. They are basicly lazy porting the PS2 game.This is what we know so far: Monster Hunter G (Wii) - Spring release - online fee unknown - wide picture - 77% complete - control with classic controller only - 6 types of weapons - 2 control schemes

MH3(tri) - More old/new info

- New area: Desert ├ Will have areas/caves that are inaccessible to sunlight. ├ Swordfish like monsters that attack in groups └ Huge ants (seen in TGS video) - New monster: Volvolos ├ Lives in the desert ├ Will submerge in mud to protect from the intense heat (similar to Basarios/Gravios) ├ Breathe by sticking its nose above the mud ├ Will attack hunters that get close to it by a upward head thrust ├ Able to shake harden mud from body to attack players ├ Hunters get caught by the harden mud will be cover in mud. They are unable to attack and movement speed will be greatly decrease └ When angry, it will use its 'bind voice' ability which will result in hunters covering their ears - Rathian ├ New spitting fire move that will have a big area effect ├ New move by using its talons to trap a hunter and bite them └ When stamina decreases, it will fall down during charge or there will be no fire when it is spitting - Ragiakurusu ├ Have different movement on land/sea ├ Electric attack will stun players └ Will rest underwater to regenerate health - Once underwater gauge runs out, health will decrease. Regenerate by getting above water or air bubbles. - New feature: Action Point, basically its just a shortcut to mining, catching bugs etc by pressing A - 40% complete - 2009 release

You may be a bit paranoid. Japan LOVES MH, almost as much as the Tales of series, and that saying something. Chances are that even if G is a sloppy port, It'll STILL sell like hotcakes. Even if it doesnt sell that well, Tri-s sales will more than make up for it.

Every video and screen shot looks incredible, I'm still shocked Wii can do this. If and when this game makes it to NA I'm buying it day one! Only issue I can even see is the camera being a bit clunky, hopefully there will be a good lock-on function.

want.. now..

This is probably my most anticipated game this year, i love anything with grinding. I dont know why, it doesnt even make sense to me but i just do. Maybe its the high effort, ok reward that keeps me coming back. The pimp armour you get just seems that much cooler.

Well if Capcom decides to bring this over (hopefully their decision to not bring over MHG doesn't reflect MH3 >_>), I'll be getting this, but I probably won't be playing online since you have to pay... that is, unless I can find other people who'd play frequently enough and if I actually enjoy the game enough (which I probably will).

It is in Japan.

Not officially, everyone assumed that since MHGWii was confirmed to be P2P. But I'm sure they will announce it eventually. On a side note, all MH games were P2P on Japan but NOT on the West.

I'm just wondering why they're hiding any shot of the game during gameplay
It also bothers me that they kept the screenshots from the other console and left them unaltered for Wii users to look at. Seems almost like they're trying to pull a bait and switch.

Monster Hunter 3 due out this Summer

Japan’s Monster Hunter fans (and there are a lot of them) now cannot wait for this Summer to get here. Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter 3 is going to hit Japan sometime this Summer.
