Cheers for all the great answers they were the ones I thought I would choose from maybe I will pay the bit extra for either heart gold or soul silver hmm dunno which is cooler now tho hahaMustangooos
Haha, well, HeartGold has more version exclusive Pokemon and your mascot Pokemon is Ho-Oh. In Soulsilver, your mascot is Lugia. They are both essientially the same game though, the only differences are the version exclusive Pokemon and the mascots. :)

The difference is minute, but there is a difference. For example, Gold has Growlithe and Arcanine while Silver has Vulpix and Ninetails. But outside of a few differences in the selection( i believe there are 10 or something pokemon that can be foun and in one, or the other, and not both) they are the same. Another difference is the level of Ho-oh and Lugia ( 40 or 70) and the one that starts with 40 will have a better move the level 70 will never have.
I'd go for HG/SS over Platinum. This has already been said, but HG and SS both have two areas to explore, more gym battles, and so on. The Pokeathlon is a lot more involved than the Pokemon Contests, and the number of Pokemon you can catch is also greater, I believe.
I am never one to feel that a game is kiddy, but I have to admit, my sudden urge lately to get back into pokemon scares me a little :P. I am sorta kidding btw lol, but I might buy black or white when they launch. I havent played a Pokemon game since gold and silver.
Haha same here but the last one I played was blue O_o haha good timesI am never one to feel that a game is kiddy, but I have to admit, my sudden urge lately to get back into pokemon scares me a little :P. Haha yeah I remember thinking how lame they would be, then played my friends copy of Red and was like...."I need to buy it!" and then went out and bought Blue. I never owned any past Gold and Silver though.

I think he was referring to how HG gets 2 more version exclusive Pokemon.I'm counting nine evolution chains apiece. So while technically I guess it does, the two extras are just pre evolved forms.
Mankey --> Primeape
Growlithe --> Arcanine
Spinarak --> Ariados
Gligar --> Gliscor
Mantyke --> Mantine
Phanpy --> Donphan
Sableye
Baltoy --> Claydol
Kyogre
Vulpix --> Ninetales
Meowth --> Persian
Ledyba --> Ledian
Teddiursa --> Ursaring
Delibird
Skarmory
Mawile
Gulpin --> Swalot
Groudon

But who's counting? I'm not. All that matters is the last evo in my book. Oh, and we need to stop doing this quoting stuff; we're overflowing. >FTSilver remains my favourite Pokemon game, but I don't have plans to get HG/SS yet. I'll definitely get Platinum though - new generation, pokemon, region, etc. I know HG/SS has a hundred changes and improvements but compared to Plat, it's stilltoo familiar...especially now that I'm trying to keep myself up-to-date with everything post-Gen 3.
I've always enjoyed the Mystery Dungeon series more than the trainer RPGs, and I'd say Blue Rescue Team perfected the formula.
