Poll Single Player or Online, which matters most to you? (124 votes)

Single Player 81%
Online 19%

In the past couple of years, it appears that more & more developers are creating online only (or primarily) games. Rainbow Six Seige, Overwatch, The Division etc. all focus on online multiplayer.

As someone who focuses most of my time on single player, and doesn't tend to dip into online multiplayer, I was wondering how many people would choose online over a single player experience.

So my question for you guys is, if you had to choose between ONE, would you go for online or single player?

Historically I've been most excited about single player releases.

I could do without MP entirely, although I still get my fix of it every now and again. But I'll rarely spend more than 20 hours or so on one game's online multiplayer anymore. Early into the previous generation I was hooked on MP and spent over 100-200 hours on multiple games. But I think SP is where the real quality is, even as addicting MP can be when you're not burned out from it. They're just completely different experiences I guess. Online MP is more of a rush but also a lot of frustration and repetition. In SP I can relax and enjoy the game at my own leisure and get immersed into the game's world. So I'll always prefer SP. It's unfortunate that the most popular games are starting to require you to be online even if you can play the game solo, not that I'd really want to play games like Destiny solo since it's very much designed for co-op.

The only multiplayer game I've ever been invested in is Team Fortress 2. Spent probably 20hrs on each class.

The few friends I have left aren't dependable. Since the start of this new gen my friends have been so split by the console war that I rarely get to play with any of them these days. At least a single player mode I get entertained and can enjoy myself to some degree. Playing MP as a lone wolf got old a very long time ago.

Single player. Was the same when I had a 360, and its the same now on pc. I dont game nearly as much as I did say 5 years ago, but when I do, it's at night, after workouts, so Im typically not looking to compete, just relax and play.

Always online single player is rather important as it is a move against player control over games with company supervision.

If had to choose one or the other, it'd be online. More of a challenge.

Uncharted 4 and others like it maybe nice to look at but at the end of the day, playing against another living thinking being is better and more satisfying than playing against some computer routine.

I don't really play single player games much anymore. I feel with how much the internet has exploded both in the amount of people that have it now along with the massive increases in speed, it's much easier to play with your local friends as well as friends you meet around the entire world. Nowadays there are actually professional gaming teams where each of the members are from different countries yet play together as one team under the same name. That in itself is pretty amazing to me.

Personally, I just don't really play single player games now. I just enjoy interacting with other people for better or for worse. It's cool to team up in a game like Overwatch, H1Z1, ARK, Rust, Garry's Mod, or Dota 2 either on Team Speak, Raid Call, or Discord and hang out while chilling together trying to win your match or build your base up.

Yeah, playing games online opens you up to trolls and toxic players entering into your life somewhat but you never have to bring any of those people with you to your next game or to anywhere else in your life. Online gaming is worth it mainly for all the cool people you'll meet where some might even eventually become really legit online friends.

With that being said, I voted for "Online".

I don't play online anymore. In the past there were certain games that I loved playing online, but the servers were never active for more than a few years. The other online experiences out there just don't measure up to the awesome times I had with those games. It's always the games I don't give a shit about that seem to continue on for fucking ever... But oh well, that's life. Doesn't matter that much anyway, since I've usually vastly preferred playing single player and I'll always be able to play those games.

I like both. I start by finishing the campaign, and only then do I dive into the MP. From there on out, I go back and forth between replaying the campaign and playing the online MP. I would've played some games much, much more if they had both a single campaign and online multiplayer. Titanfall and Rainbow Six Siege come to mind first.

Also, multiplayer only games should have a lower price point, IMO. $40 would be good for a game like Battlefront, which doesn't have nearly enough content, nor replay value, to justify spending $110 for the game and season pass...

I prefer Multiplayer because I like to game with my friends and family. SP games are fun too but if I had to choose which I could only have from here on out, i'd choose multiplayer. Because you get to play the main game CO-OP and the PVP aspect too.

That's a very silly way of looking at things. If your main interactions with real people are done from your video game systems, you're not a social butterfly in the first place.

Single player for me. I'm way too old to want to hang out with a bunch of high school kids online. Seems like half of them can't enjoy a game unless they're ruining it for everyone else. I like to get drawn into a story, with good characters, feel like I'm proceeding towards an exciting conclusion etc.

SP by far. But I do enjoy a few MP experiences as a way to reconnect and have a laugh with old friends around the country. I have no interest in CoD etc against random people, though.

Im all for single player. I dont hate MP, I just hate what they do with it. All the buzzwords they use to promote it(like social). I also find it quite a hustle to find people to play with. AI is ready to go whenever you are ready to go. Real peopl arent.

Single player. Yes, it still holds up in today's times.

Multiplayer games can be oodles of fun if done right - but to be frank I haven't experienced many high quality mp games.

There is almost ALWAYS something that ruins a mp experience, from cheaters to griefers/trolls to shonky internet connections, garbage f2p games, fees, people dropping in and out mid-game, vastly different levels of skill/experience among players... and the list goes on.

I do not "hate" online and mp games, but when i do sit down i want to enjoy playing and not listen to pre-adolescents talking shit.

So i almost always play single player.

I lean more towards Singleplayer, but both holds value.

Sometimes I like to play online and sometimes I like to just step back and enjoy something by myself.

It's sort of like watching movies, it's fun to do with a large group of friends and sometimes it's fun to just sit alone on the couch and watch a movie by yourself.

Single player is my preference but I also enjoy a good game designed around multiplayer (the left 4 dead series is incredible). In terms of singleplayer games with multiplayer shoehorned in tough ()bioshock infinite, Max Payne 3, Doom) I don't touch the multiplayer out of principle.

I've been heavily into online multiplayer for over two decades now (started with direct dial Doom death match). However, as I approach middle age and my reflexes begin to fail me I find myself really appreciating a slower paced single player experience.

It really depends on the genre and type of game. Overall though I mostly play SP games. There are a few games with MP components that I really enjoyed though, such as the MP in ME3.

Of course MP games it's more exciting to play with people and you will be more skillful .
