Nintendo dumping 3D? Nintendo 2DS announced

Nintendo has announced they will retail a version of the 3DS without the 3D, called the "2DS"

It's the exact same thing, except it doesn't have the 3D effect and... does not look portable at all.

It will retail for $130, which makes me wonder, since you can score a proper 3DS for that price if you shop around.

Could this be beginning of the end of Nintendo's foray into 3D?

Looks like a cheap model for parents to buy their kids. Still looks fugly though

For 3DS owners, how often do you use the 3D? This seems like it could be worth picking up.

edit: Weird.  Just noticed it isn't a clamshell design.  That makes for one ugly device.

It looks a little better from the side, but not much.

My kids don't turn on 3D anymore.

Now that Nintendo is dropping expensive gimmicks people don't care about in order to sell more units I can think of an easy way for them to shave another $100 of the price of the Wii U.

For 3DS owners, how often do you use the 3D? This seems like it could be worth picking up.

This is clearly designed for very young kids.  Something they leave at home and pick up and play like oldschool games on big flat devices.  Younger kids shouldnt have 3D (supposedly) and they cant break the clamshell design.  It is just aimed at them in every way it seems.

Though looking at it, I have to ask myself, is this real?  It is incredibly stupid.  Though I hardly ever use 3D because of the very low tolerance in angle.

Anyway, I wouldn't care if they got rid of 3d. I actually jeast realised that I have't turned my 3D on in months.

It has the 3DS twin cameras on the back, meaning you can still take 3D pictures... you just can't, y'know, view them in 3D.  Seriously.

Just yesterday I was looking at my finances to try to get money to buy a 3DS and now Nintendo announces this. I'm beyond happy.

There is only one possible reaction to this:

this was made for kids who have sensitivities to 3d technology.

but everyone else should avoid this trainwreck.

The 3d on the 3D was low quality garbage. It is possible the most inferior 3D display I have had the displeasure of using. The design for the ....2DS looks like ass but at least the 3D gimmick is gone and the price is very accessible.

Hardly the most appealing design, but it's cheap at least. Will no doubt be a hit with parents worried about exposing their kids to 3D.

No, I would like the 3D if it didn't make me nauseous. The problem with this product is that it's worthless for anyone over age 7 since it doesn't fold.

I keep mine full blast all of the time. The 3D was the biggest selling point for me. I have bought FIVE of these thingsbut if this hideous 2DS means that Nintendo is going to stop developing 3D games then I will sell my 3DS and purchase a Vita just to spite them. This is a terrible idea.

Or you could simply keep your better designed exsisting 3ds and just not turn on the 3d effect like 99% of 3ds users do already.
