YES, I played the demo for The Darkness at my friends house and ended up buying the game and a PS3 within an hour because it impressed me so much. Cool intro into next-gen!

I don't trust demos. There have been several demos I have tried and not liked. Later, I got the game when it was cheap or as a gift, and loved it.

Of course, The Darkness and Army of Two are among some of the recent ones. More importantly, though, lots of demos keep me from wasting money.

MGS2, MGS3, Uncharted and Motorstorm Pacific Rift.

Yeah, a lot of people didnt like the Pacific Rift demo, but I personally thought it was fantastic.

Black & White... What a game.

The only game I bought due to playing once (not a demo) was MGS4. And No, I don't regret it.

I also bought MGS2 due to the awesomeness of MGS4, and I don't regret that either.

Yes. The Dead Space and Valkyria Chronicles demos sold on my games whicch became two of my favorite experiences of last year. And the excellent demo of Red Faction 3 has made a game that hadn't even been on my radar a must-buy.

On the flipside, bad demos recentlypushed me away from RE5 and FEAR 2.

Demos are wonderful because they let you experience the game mechanics for yourself, but I disregard their general lack of difficulty since most designers make demos easier than the full games.

heck yeah ^^

Before the net was so full of info, I usually bought gaming mags, and watched thier reviews, and they usually had a demo so you could see, feel and get an idea of the game.

Untill 1998 or thereabout most my game buys were due to demos, and sometimes boxart XD

Yeah. I was reading previews about Loco Roco and was curious about how it played so I downloaded the demo from the PSN and I was really intrigued as it was unlike anything I've ever played before. I must've played that demo countless number of times before finally getting it on retail.

Most demos help me not purchase a bad game, but there are a few exceptions like Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5.

I used to do this all the time way back when demos were actually the first 1/3 of the game, normally the first episode of a trilogy in the game.

I think it was around 1997 when demos started to become shorter.

When I played the demo of Wheelman I was really impressed but I still rented it instead of buying it and turns out I didn't like it mostly due to the on foot gameplay.

Eternal Sonata... first and last time. This is what convinced me that console game demo's are simply immoral marketing ploys to present you with the most unrealistic expectation of gameplay and bank on the fact that most stores won't give you a refund or even store credit for an opened game purchase.

Valkyria Chronicles, which is a bit odd as what's presented in the demo is easily the weakest portion of the game. Other than that, I can't think of anything. Lots of demos have turned me away from games I was previously interested in, however (hi RE5).

Got aDreamcast at launch which came with a demo disc. One of the games were Tokyo Highway Challenge on it. To this day, one of my favourite games.

I only got it last week and haven't played it yet. Unless it's vastly different than the lenghty demo (which, unless I'm mistaken, is comprised of the tutorial and a mission straight from the game), I don't see why I wouldn't enjoy it. I love co-op - especially games built around co-op like Left 4 Dead. Army of Two has great controls, great team mechanics, weapons feel satisfying and you can smack your buddy upside the head. What's not to like?

Yes quite a few demos have convinced me to buy a game. Sometimes I have known about the game beforehand and just wanted to try it myself before buying. Other times I have just downloaded a demo for a game I knew nothing about and found I liked it.

Burnout 3 takedown - demo was mad fun. I think I had more fun with it than the actual game X_X

Bioshock - My jaw must have touched the floor after I played the demo.

Mirror's Edge - Felt like I could fly

World of Warcraft - Pressing the 'M' key by accident while playing the trial and realizing how massive the world is sold me on that.

COD4 - Lets say I know every single pixle of grass on overgrowth.

Starcraft, although I probably would have bought it anyway. There's probably something more recent, but that's the first thing that popped into my head. I actually still distinctly remember part of the one of the matches I played online of that demo. I was in the southern base and my opponent had a siege tank in my base firing away, not in siege mode. Obviously neither one of us had any idea what we were doing. :P

Fahrenheit's demo made me rush out and buy the game - although the statements in the demo's intro mostly turned out to be lies.

Oh, and I was very sceptical about Left4Dead until the demo was released. I preordered the full game about an hour after playing that. :P

Valkyria Chronicles would be the most recent one.

And the converse is true. The RE5 demo convinced me I don't want this game after it played exactly like RE4.

I play a lot of good demos and I am sure that I have bought a few games based on it. Actually Battlefield Bad Company was the last one. The demo end hilariously.I wanted the game immediately. I always wait to see what Gamespot gives a game before I make my decision though. I will wait on Wheelman because of it only getting a 6.0. I loved the demo though.
