The transformers are re-imagined in the war that started it all.

User Rating: 9 | Transformers: War for Cybertron PS3
Transformers war for cybertron is a not unlike many other shooters, however its main difference being the most obvious one and that is you control transformers both decepticon and autobot alike. The added element of a a class system adds a bit more variety to the game and the multiplay modes add so much more to the diversity of the game.

Story:

The main story or campaign mode is played over 2 parts, the first half being what I would consider the rise of the decepticons, and the later half of which the autobots have to take back a portion of cybertron. The game world is done well and you can get lost easily in the world.....literally as almost everything blends together as most of it looks the same in each level. The flying modes and driving portions of the game are fun, and travelling through those maze like sections is fun and its these portions that give you a true sense of scale in regards to how big cybertron is.

AI:
This is probably the games weakest point. When playing the campaign in the "offline" mode the AI does its own thing and when you have sustained heavy damage and are expecting soundwave/ratchet to come fix you up they don't. There have been times when I am playing as either the decepticons or autobots with full health and soundwave/ratchet will decide to shoot me with the repair ray. Which to me is a little over redundant and I'd much prefer soundwave/ratchet to be doing that when I am under attack, or badly damaged. The enemy AI is actually surprisingly tough at times especially the brutes, and nearly all the enemy will use cover and shoot back.

When you play the campaign online and it matches you with 2 other people, it plays well and whoever is playing as soundwave/ratchet will always try to revive you....well those that realise that your down at least. Keep in mind that some players forget that its co-op for a reason and take off and do their own thing.

Multiplay:
This is probably the games strongest area, if you think the online campaign mode is a bit of fun, wait til you see what the multiplay is like... All the usual suspects are here, dm, team dm etc. There are other modes as well like nodes of power which is a different take on defending your ground, and code of power which is capture the flag.

Rent or buy:
Well hard to say, if you like the story and nostalgia surrounding the transformers then you will be right at home like a kid in a candy store. Add on top of that the multiplay and if you rented it for one night, you'll be kicking yourself you didn't buy it instead.
