Unleash the Rage

User Rating: 8.5 | The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction XBOX
I admit throughout the course of history there hasn't been many great video game adaptations of comic book characters. They only come few and far between and the ones that do deliver are remembered on epic proportions such as Incredible Hulk: ULTIMATE Destruction.

Gameplay:
Well I must say the Vivendi Universal really has outdone themselves in terms of gameplay this time around. Unlike the craptastic "Hulk" movie game released in 2002, this version is STRICTLY drawn from the comic book and uses such free sandbox roaming gameplay tactics to execute an outstanding and seemingly BRUTAL system that works more than well. You take control as the Hulk in his classic savage form and the city is yours to trample and destroy. Nearly every object, building, car, hell even the pedestrians you can pick up, climb to the tallest building and chuck them off like a frisbee if you wish to do so. The free roam system from place to place is a nice touch, especially for those GTA entusiasts out there who need a little more breathing room than other mission based games.

Graphics:
Not too shabby if I do say so myself. The Hulk looks amazing on the Xbox and really like he pumps that adrenaline burst of pure unadulterated RAGE even with it being a "T" rated game. The character models are fairly done with some exception on the people on the street which tend to seem blocky and uneven. The buildings look great intact as well as crumbling to the ground. Turning vehicles such as passing taxi's and buses into boxing gloves is a nice touch as well as catching heli's in mid-flight and take em down and use missles to chuck back at oncoming tanks is useful as well.

Sound:
From the sound of literally ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION being wreaked throughout the city to the screams of civilians and ROAR-ing of the Hulk himself this game really puts you in the shoes of the savage beast the Hulk is known for. Vehicular sound effects are potent as well and the voice acting and storytelling is pretty well done for the most part.

Control:
Controlling the Hulk is pretty simple ranging from jumping and leaping from building to building, to climbing and grabbing anything and everything and turning it into debris or tiny crumbs (row). Utilizing the special attacks that Hulk unlocks are really fun to perform as well as view. There is really no complaints in this department as the controls remain tight and slick for most parts of the game.

Overall:
I'm not one to praise much adaptations of comic books and/or movie based games. I'm more for originality and creativity in the gaming culture, but from what I've seen, this game has everything you would expect a Hulk game to have. Simply put UNLIMITED chaos, havoc, and most importantly DESTRUCTION. With vast unlockables, upgrades and a pretty awesome final boss fight against the infamous Abomination, this game will have you hooked for weeks especially if you're an adrenaline junkie.
