The best Smash Bros yet!

User Rating: 9 | Super Smash Bros. for Wii U WIIU

Honestly, I don't even know why you are even reading this review. Why haven't you got this game yet!?

The Smash Bros franchise has been apart of Nintendo's family of game franchises since 1999, and it's really no surprise why. I mean, who wouldn't love the idea of a battle royale full of Nintendo characters battling it out to the bitter end?

Super Smash Bros is a lot different to any other fighting game. The main objective is to knock your opponent off the screen. The more damage you deal to the opposing character, the easier it will be. That may sound a little dull, but trust me, it's a lot of fun! You can also spice up the battle with items what you can use to your advantage. A new addition exclusive to this game is that you can fight up to 7 other characters at once. It gets pretty hectic, believe me!

Overall, the game features 52 playable characters. Most of the roster features some of gamings most popular characters, including Mario, Link, Pikachu and Kirby. However the game also features some characters you wouldn't expect, these include R.O.B, the Wii Fit Trainer, the Duck Hunt Dog and even some 3rd Party characters like Sonic, Mega Man and Pac Man. Though my favourite characters are the cuddly pink balloon Jigglypuff, Pit from Kid Icarus Franchise and the charming prince, Marth from the Fire Emblem.

Despite the greatness of the roster, it is somewhat flawed by the inclusion of "Clones" If you don't know what they are, let me explain, a clone character is basically a character who has the same moveset as another existing character, but it just has a few changes. These characters include Dr Mario as a clone of Mario, Lucina as a clone of Marth, Dark Pit as a clone of Pit and the weirdest one of all... Ganondorf as a clone of Captain Falcon. I do think characters like Lucina and Dark Pit are really cool, they would have just worked better as alternate costumes rather than a full fledged one.

One problem with quite a few games is that once you complete them, you get bored of them. Thankfully though, the new Smash Bros is no victim to that! The game has tons of game modes to keep you busy. The main mode is Classic Mode, it is fairly basic, you basically fight a bunch of opponents until you meet the final villain, the Master Hand! Their is also an online mode. Even though it is vastly improved from Super Smash Bros Brawl's online mode, it is still fairly basic. Other modes include a board game style mode titled Smash Tour and a challenge mode called Event mode. Basically the event mode gives you unique objectives (For example, defeat Little Mac in under 1 minute)

One of the other cool things this game has to offer is the vast ammount of trophies, let me explain. Basically they are collectable data bases what have information for the trophy you collected. Nearly every single character from Nintendo has a trophy. Seriously, think of a Nintendo character, most likely they are a trophy! Every playable character in the game has their own trophy, you get these by completing Classic Mode with the character. The other way to get trophies for characters/items who aren't playable you get via the Trophy Shop with the coins you collect by playing the game.

The last thing thing I want to talk about is the stages. One problem with most fighting games is the stages are all the same. Not with Smash Bros! There are tons of stages what feature lots of hazards and even some cool things in the background what is a sort of memento to a past Nintendo game. Personally, my favourite stages in the game are Woolly World what is based on the upcoming Wii U game "Yoshi's Woolly World" Pac-Land, what is based on the arcade game "Pac-Land" and of course, Flat Zone, this stage is basically a Game and Watch!

This review has gone on for far too long. Overall this game is a must have for any Wii U owner and almost anyone can get into it. 9 out of 10!
