it was back in 1997 when this game was the reason to own a Nintendo 64 . It follows Mario on a journey to save the princess from bowzer yet again but this time its a 3D game where you explore princess peachs castle and climb in to paintings to acces the worlds they contain .the game plays really well you collect stars by carrying out various tasks which varie from fighting a giant bomb on top of a mountain to racing a penguin down an icy slope. Theres a lot of moves that mario can pull of and all the controls work well . The camera can be alterd to your needs and it works pretty well .The sound is rather impressive from when u load up the game to hear "its a me mario "to "mama mia" when you lose a life and the tunes are catchy and will have u humming along as you play .As for the graphics they look a bit old these days but in its day these were the best of the best and are still impressive for a 10 year old game . Basically this is a game every one should own at least once and if for some reason you have never played this then go out and buy it , right now !!!!
