After all those Spider-Man games, you might think that developers finally learned of their mistakes. They failed again.
When starting the game you will first see a very good looking animated movie where Spidey is fighting the bad guys Dr. Ock, Green Goblin and so on. Could be promising…

Unfortunately the game play wasn't. Our Spider-Man has 2 melee attack buttons, 1 fast and 1 fierce slower one, a jump button, a web attack button (at start only usable when an enemy is near), 2 special attacks you can perform while press and hold one of the attack buttons (one of Spidey's special attacks neatly stolen from Marvel vs Capcom) and you can switch to your sidekick. In the beginning this will be the BlackCat, but there are many others. While this may sound enjoyable, experiencing the game tells us different. -

First looking at our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, we know him as our favorite web slinger and wall crawler, talking about those 2 things, you won't get much of those spectacular stuff in this game. Our Spidey only has one dull web sling that you can perform while holding the jump button, which doesn't give you any satisfaction of web slinging at all. Also, this spider-man cannot stick to walls. Although some might say that in this game this is not a major issue, I find it very annoying that I play as Spider-Man but haven't got all of his basic abilities. -

While fighting enemies you will notice that everything is the same all over again. You walk your way through an environment until you can't go any further because you have to defeat some enemies. After defeating them you walk further again until the next stop when the story repeats itself over and over again, also with the same enemies, sometimes bigger versions, but still the same. Another thing is: you can't really die, if your health bar ever does reach it's limit, you can easily pick up the other character and the one that "died" gets back to the battlefield in no time. If you will somehow manage to get them both killed, you will have to restart from the beginning of the area. -

Another issue for the very skeptical under us; again the characters/story are not the same as we know from the old comic books. When are they going to stick to the real story of spider-man? The one and only real comic history of him since day one, like The Secret Wars, Web of Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man and so on. -
