Fun Resident Evil title, but nothing really new...

Zero is a solid overall title that will definitely appeal to long-time RE fans such as myself, as well as survival horror/action fans in general. Just like you classic RE titles, it offers a great story-line, beautiful visual, cheesey dialogue (a must have for any Resident Evil game), and plenty of zombie killing action. Unfortunately though, I didn't find it offered much new in terms of gameplay. It still essentially plays like every other RE title that came out prior to RE4, with the horror movie-like camera angles that can make the controls somewhat frustrating at times, and an often slow pace of the game.

First off, Capcom did a great job once again with the visuals and the music in this game. They made full use of the Gamecube's graphics engine and as a result you have yet another RE game with some well detailed characters, and beautiful looking environments to explore. The cut scenes were well done as well. The dark, eerie music also adds to the suspense and horror feel of the storyline.
In terms of the gameplay, the best feature that Zero offers is a co-op mode, where you can control both Billy and Rebecca throughout the course of the game, as well as exchange items between each other. Also, when you are controlling one of the two, the other character (which is being controlled by the computer) can actually still help you out when battling enemies if the "team" mode is activated.

My biggest problem with the gameplay though was the elimination of item storage boxes, in favour of a new option that allows you drop your items wherever you want throughout the game. This can be somewhat convenient because if ever you have no room left to pick up items, and you wanna drop and item to make space, you can! Unfortunately, you're gonna have to trace your steps alllllllllll the way back to that very same location in the event that you need that item again later on in the game.

Resident Evil fans should be pleased with this title, and it's a must have if you're a gamecube/WII owner looking for some good old fashion RE fun. Just don't expect anything incredibly revolutionary or different in the gameplay. Of course, classic RE gamers might not have a problem with that either ;)
