An alright addition to the series, but not required for every Resident Evil fan.

This game does have a lot of potential to it, being the prequel to every other Resident Evil game released. However, this game doesn't quite feel as good as the rest. There are some aspects about this one that some people find very appealing, but to me it's probably ranked in the middle of the best and worst spectrum when it comes to Resident Evil games.

GAMEPLAY - This game plays like the other early Resident Evil games. However, there is a big difference to handling items. Some people find this difference to be a life-saver and absolutely hate the older style of management. You get to control two characters in this game, and rather than having a storage chest you get to keep all items between the two characters. This is also the only Resident Evil where you can drop items and retrieve them later without worry. Personally I like having a storage chest better, because there is so much to carry around on this game that you're going to find yourself leaving things behind here. One thing that's good about the two-person system is that you'll have to use teamwork to do some things, but not having the satisfaction of being able to access everything from a chest just makes this feel like a poor concept to me. - 7.5/10

STORY - You play Rebecca Chambers in this one (the STARS member who helps Chris in RE1). You end up traveling with the fugitive that you're trying to capture, Billy Coen. The game starts out on a train, which I found to be the best part of the entire story. Later you go to an Umbrella research facility as well as some familiar areas from past RE games, but nothing too spectacular. This game's story just feels very hollow and linear, without much going on besides explaining how the T-virus came about and how these characters escape the evil caused by the virus. - 7/10

GRAPHICS - The graphics here are the best of the series not counting the ones on current systems. Pretty much everything here looks good. Too bad the same can't be said for the sound... - 9.5/10

SOUND - The voice-acting and music are both very sub-par. Rebecca and Billy's interactions aren't terribly bad, but the rest of this game suffers in this area. - 6/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - This game went on way too long in my opinion, and the story seemed so uninspired that I had no desire to play through again. There's nothing to unlock, and frankly this game's story is probably the weakest of all the Resident Evil games, without trying to cram in how the T-virus came about in the first place. - 4/10

BOTTOM LINE - This is a game that's worth playing if you're a Resident Evil fan, but nothing you're going to consider a masterpiece. As I said, some people really love the idea of sharing inventories here, but unless it's RE4 or RE5, I prefer having a storage chest at my disposal. Neither of the characters here are very likable, much less memorable. On the whole, this is a decent game, but far from the best in the series. - 7.5/10
