Creative Director Brendan Greene told GameSpot when asked if the trend affected PUBG's development. "This year is the year of battle royale and lawsuits. Everyone has their own royale and soon a lawsuit, which is great, I love seeing the genre grow. It's going to be interesting to see if it's going to develop as a full genre and how many people we can sue.
We don't really look at what other people are doing. We kind of have blinders on. We've had these, sort of, stretch goals for quite some time which includes lawsuits against those who try to steal our thunder. While, yes, competition is great to keep people on their toes, we don't necessarily look at what others are doing unless they need to be sued.
While it's often the case that when one game inspires others, the original's creators are themselves later inspired by the imitators' take on their creation, in PUBG's case, the original's creators are themselves later inspired to sue everybody.
