@GTR12: Hey, thanks for the reply. I'm running at 4.3ghz. I know I could push the CPU further if I messed with the voltage but 4.3 ghz has been rock solid for 7 years so I don't want to mess with it.

I agree, I probably should reset the CPU. I do clean the case somewhat regularly, about a month ago was the last time I did it. I don't do a completely thorough job but I remove the fans from the heat sink and make sure all the dust is cleared out so that air can flow freely.

Simple tasks like cruising facebook, ESPN and using Microsoft Edge. It's possible these are just software glitches, because for games the PC still runs well.

Its 2gen behind. It might be worth to upgrade with a new mobo and cpu.

Thanks for the attempt but you clearly are a little unclear about what I'm asking for.

I'm still rocking a computer I built in April 2011, with the exception of a new GPU (1070 GTX) and an SSD I installed about 3 years ago.

With games the thing still runs pretty well, it's a bit warmer and louder than I'd like but the performance is good. However I've found over the past year that with certain daily tasks the computer is a big sluggish.

I still don't know if it's worth spending the money to upgrade my 2600k. I'm looking for feedback from people who have recently upgraded from Sandybridge and if they found much of a benefit from doing so.

If commenting could you note what CPU and CPU speed you upgraded from and what CPU you purchased.

Thanks.

Gaming + laptop generally don't go in the same sentence, there are exceptions but they are few and far between.

Unless you absolutely need a laptop because of travel a desktop is always a better and cheaper choice for playing games on.

@spike6958: I use Avira (although I don't recall the last time I did a scan) and for web browser I have an ad blocker.

I've had this PC since 2011 without issue, this includes downloading everything you can think of.

Early 90's I started gaming on a computer, although I wouldn't call it PC gaming.

I used to play some games on a Commodore 64 and similar old systems. My parents bought our first PC in 1994 and I used to play games like Doom, Duke Nuken 3d, Warcraft II and some sports games like NBA Live 95.

A few years later I played my first MMO, Motor City Online, that thing was a ton of fun but EA killed it.

I assume you bought that computer vs. built it. I never understood the reasoning behind how companies build their "gaming pc's", put in a super powerful CPU with a mediocre GPU.

Yes, yes, yes the 960 is still good but wouldn't he be better off with a I5 6600 and a 1060 gtx? or even better 1070?

You are right, I purchased the Gigabyte Windforce for $529.99 CAD, which works out to a bit over $400 in USD. I checked newegg.com today and the same card in USD was nearly $490, blew my mind. If you converted that to CAD the cost would be $637.

I finally ordered a Gigabyte 1070, it's out of stock but the price was finally reasonable. I'm not expecting to pick it up for at least 2 weeks.
