As somebody who has not followed the development of this thing real close; did they shoot new any new material for this cut? Or is the new content all stuff that was shot during the original production and not used in the theatrical release?

It's more like they shot new material for the old cut. Only about 45 minutes of what snyder shot remains on film, and most of that was hastily edited with cheap CGi (the main villain for instance had an entirely different look originally, the the theatrical cut made the genius decision to turn him into an albino in a spikey hat and short shorts.) Scenes shot at night were digitally altered to look like day. Aquaman, Cyborg and flash all had their subplots cut entirely.

The remaining 75 minutes of footage in the original cut was all reshoots designed to add marvel style quipping and more slapstick humour. Hence flash accidentally motor-boarding wonder woman. By all accounts whedon did not want to be there, and the cast did not want him there either, everyone was unhappy and it hurt the finished product. Also for some insane reason, they replaced the score by Hans Zimmer and junkie XL (of deadpool and Fury road fame) with one written like a month beforehand by danny elfman. In doing this they threw out the cyborg/flash and aquaman themes that Zimmer had already written.

That's why the snyder cut is such a big deal. The film we got in theatres had bits and pieces of his work in it, but it is not his movie. The guy has been used as a scapegoat for the failure of that film when the film we got was not the one he made.

The only thing that's shocking is people actually think this is going to be good somehow.

Why not? His director's cuts are always awesome.

Speaking of mean-spirited, why add this? What you described is called social media, and it requires no attention span whatsoever.

He's letting us know what a good person he is because he dislikes a shock comic and would much rather prefer a cartoon show created by a serial sexual predator.

I love this, but it really underscores how bad WB has been about managing the dceu. They bring in Affleck with the promise of directing a batman film. They then cut the second act out of his debut movie so it underperforms. They then effectively throw out all the work done on justice league and shanghai Joss whedon into frankensteining together a film instead of letting the original director finish it. A situation nobody was happy with and it pretty much soured affleck on being batman.

Now they seem to finally have gotten the memo about letting the directors make the damn movies and we've head a steady stream of good films (Aquaman, Shazam, Joker, BoP) free of micromanaging....and now they want to let snyder finish his movie after using him as a scapegoat for 4 years. And now they want affleck back as batman, right as his replacement is unveiling the first film in a proposed trilogy...one that takes place in an alternate continuity.

Best case scenario, everything works out, Snyder cut and The Batman are successful...and the most profitable character in dc's stable is essentially relegated to standalone movies in one continuity and maybe crossovers/premium streaming series in the main continuity.

So I assume they are doing some variant of flashpoint where affleck will play Bruce at the beginning and end, and Keaton will play Thomas wayne in the altered timeline.

@Barighm: The film isn't being censored. It's being labeled. They aren't cutting anything out, just letting people know what's in it. The only outcome of this decision is that people who don't wanna hear the N word right now will not watch the film at this time.

@crashchaos: It's called projection. You externalize your own flaws onto other people. It lets them reassure themselves that they aren't sensitive (since look at how much they hate sensitivity. It couldn't possibly apply to them) while also satisfying the part of their subconscious that recognizes the flaw and feels the need to attack it.

A harmless, common sense move that hurts nobody and allows consumers to make more educated choices.

Surely the comments here will be 100% supportive and not filled with people who are totally not racist but perpetually angry at any attempts at censoring racism.
