@7tizz: Think you made a typo there, Gamespot have a equivalent word system with their review scores and 5 is mediocre. This got 7 though which is good so what you meant to say was:
@olddadgamer: You are right, but at the same time there is a lot of similarities between the two things, and if Sony had managed to trademark the phrase you could guarantee they would go after anyone using the words to promote themselves. In fact I described trademarks in my comment as opposed to copyrights, highlighting the same situations. As an average person though, the way these laws are implemented seem somewhat illogical and definitely always in favour of some big company. So my original post stands, but just change copyright to trademark and alter the second sentence a little (I must not have had my coffee today since I even started with trademark and then wandered off into my happy place) ;)
What mainly upsets me about this trademark application is the reason for rejection, Let's Play should not be something that is copyrightable given it is a term in common usage. Copyright was meant to be there to protect originality from being freely used by anyone without compensating the original creator. Now we have things like Bethesda bringing the lawyers in over the word 'scrolls', Diesel forcing a rename of a game with the word Diesel as past of the title and loads of other cases where companies are using loopholes in the Law to exploit what it was there for originally. I'm glad Sony failed here and hope it happens more often, but for the right reason.
Kind of funny to read through the comments from Xbox users using this to knock Playstation users for various reasons based on this article. Of course if any of them bothered to look at the statistics they would see that the 46.9% Playstation vs 37.9% Xbox visitor stats means a higher percentage of Xbox users visit the site if we only take this gen in to account (which a lot of the comments seem to). Otherwise we can see the shift from last year, where Xbox was ahead, to this year, where Playstation is ahead, probably means a lot of people with 360s moved on to this gen by buying a PS4. It is funny the potential data you can extrapolate from little articles like this though. Of course, while the stats aren't there, we all know that PC and mobile devices will probably dwarf all these figures combined.
Hopefully we are reaching that point in this generation where the exclusives start living up to the hype (I'm looking at you Ryse and The Order, among others). Looks like it might be something special if they haven't played it too safe and I really hope it is for all you Xbox owners.
Another speculative article about sales. Look at the nice round figures used, 180 million pcs and 200 million total. There is obvious rounding going on here, so we could also speculate there are 182 million pcs and 199 million total users making the xbox users a lower figure. Or we can go the other way and make it a higher figure. Truth is that we don't know the sales figures and these predictions are made for clicks by people who either don't understand figures, or just choose to ignore basic logic. The only time I'd remotely trust the figures released would be directly through Microsoft and even then I'd check the wording.
@dcoutten: We get charged 20% tax on digital downloads which I know most of the US doesn't so that always increases our already higher prices. I know a fair few people who use the primary account trick for another country to buy their games digitally from Canada at the moment - while our physical discs are cheaper than our psn store prices at almost all times (sales included), it is not uncommon to see cheaper prices on the PSN store in the US and Canada than our physical discs when sales are on.
