Why people think you'd open up your XB1 and install new hardware is laughable. If Xbox goes the upgrade route, it will be with a new base system that allows for slot-able parts that either add to or replace those existing. I think Microsoft has been toying with this possibility for a year now, and they'll announce a new core system in 2017 that will allow us to throw more memory and maybe a CPU or GPU set into the mix. In all honesty, if they don't want to bother with replacing hardware there should be a PCI slot that connects a second GPU and CPU to boost the power of the console. Either way, it needs to happen. Phil may be happy with the Xbox as-is but as a supporter of am not. The console struggles with running some of its apps, especially snapped. I love what Xbox is doing with games, but this is not a good enough console for the next 4-5 years. Neither is the PS4.
Yeah mobile gaming is NOT anywhere near console or pc gaming. This dev is leaving out a lot of the experience of social networking and powered machines that render specific gaming environments that can never be seen or heard on a phone. Maybe in 4-5 years? MAYBE. This year? Nope. Arm certainly is growing, and it's great, but gaming on a cell phone lacks too much to pull me away from dedicated hardware.
I'm okay with the graphics - they're noticeably better than Fallout 3 and New Vegas and it looks like Bethesda is trying to expand the sandbox - probably why the graphics aren't jaw-dropping. I love great visuals but Fallout is one of those games that we can forgive for not pushing the envelope in that department. I'm only a few hours into the game, but I already feel like it's a winner. With hundreds of hours ahead of me, I know there's plenty I haven't experiences but it's a Fallout game: I always enjoy them.
@rebfaction: You're talking about one side of the deal. Microsoft did pay money, but they helped develop and publish the game - like, side-by-side with Crystal Dynamics. Microsoft had a bigger appetite for getting Tomb Raider to move along, and CD didn't feel like they had the resources to push this game the way they wanted to. A lot of developers would be quick to have Microsoft Game Studios come alongside and help build their game without making it a permanent console exclusive. BTW, it launches on PC early next year, so they certainly haven't sold their souls - Sony just didn't give a damn to keep it from being a timed exclusive.
Halo, Forza, Gears of War all got shafted. The Witcher 3 earns GotY for Xbox One? Meh, it's good, albeit has a rough combat system and piss-poor story telling for the first few hours (or more). I'm playing it now and I find it decent, but it's also not so good that it should overthrow how good Halo 5 ended up being, as well as Rise of the Tomb Raider outright. And hoping a racing title wins GotY is always a stretch, but Forza 6 was stronger than 5 - I would have thought XB1 exclusives would have dominated here.
Ouch, PS4 voters shunned a good exclusive in Bloodborne for The Witcher 3? Seems like a signal of how weak Sony's efforts were this year for its loyal fans. Not to knock Witcher 3, but I'm surprised that Bloodborne didn't contend harder. Did PS4 players not play it?
Wild Hunt eh? I'm like 15% into Witcher 3 so I dunno where things end up, but I'll tell you right now that The Taken King was massive. The first credible expansion that made some important changes and added hours upon hours of new content and replayability. I felt that was much more important to games overall - the path to how you start building a game out after the core game's release.
