I gotta say, it's going to be a great year for us PC gamers. Forbidden West this month (March) and Ghost of Tsushima this May, not bad at all. Just God of War: Ragnarok is all that's left which shouldn't take long since Santa Monica are done with Valhalla expansion, we could see it coming to PC early 2025.

I'll believe it when I see it. But the Twit does make it convincing.

Yes, Nintendo is currently very healthy, but it's important to point out that video game companies embracing new strategies tend to reach a wider audience and stay ahead. Expanding into PC, mobile, and cloud gaming markets could significantly boost their revenue.

They also sometimes get their teeth kicked in. Historically Nintendo have also not done well in red oceans. They can't outspend MS, Sony and companies like Tencent.

Expanding into those markets also means letting go of the walled garden. Remember that Nintendo get a 30% cut out of every game sold on the Switch (and a lot of games are sold on the switch). They also make money on peripherals (including authorised 3rd party ones). They make money on the hardware itself too. And they make money off carts for physical releases. Then there is licensing fees they get from publishers on top of all that.

So to undermine all that for the chance of maybe selling more of their own games on other platforms, platforms where it will be Nintendo paying the 30% cut to someone and making nothing on hardware etc....putting my corpo Nintendo shill hot on for a sec: it's a tough sell.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have an official method of playing Nintendo games on the PC. It would be better for us, the consumer.

But the only way I see it happening is if Nintendo are forced to do it due to an existential crisis. Switch 2 and 3 being flops with much fewer people buying their games on those systems and Nintendo having no fallback....that may force their hand. But i think that's what it will take.

In my opinion, Nintendo should test the waters by porting one of their popular titles to PC. If it doesn't turn a profit, they can decide whether to continue porting games. After all, wouldn't it be better to give Steam a 30% cut and reach a wider audience than to watch their games pirated before release? They're missing a golden opportunity, and the more they wait, the more people might resort to piracy. As you mentioned, They're so stubborn, you could lead them to water, offer them a boat, and they'd still try to walk on it

Took out some older posts in this thread for brevity.

On the Bold: Not necessarily. They would need to sell many many 10s of millions of their games on the PC to make it worth their while. This is highly unlikely: as good as Nintendos games are.

Putting my Nintendo Shill hat back on, it would be better if I just made is as awkward as f'in possible to run pirated copies of my games. That means more people buy my hardware, my accessories, more games on my store and I have more chances of people subbing to my services. That's worth more than selling another mill or 2 of Zelda on the PC.

Nintendo is not going to release their games on any other platform until they absolutely have to. Which is a shame.

Welp, guess all we can do is pray Ryujinx slips under the radar and live to see the Switch 2

In all my PC gaming years, I have really never seen or run into a person who pirate games for a living. But that's beside the point, I don't like pirates and I cannot support those who do it. Justifying piracy is pointless as there are no justifications for doing it. If you hate a developer, just don't buy their games but don't pirate them either. Wait on a sale or you can go to CDkeys if you must. At least with CDkeys, developers get half the money and I always point this out. "Some money is better than no money" and even a developer can agree with that than facing piracy.

Hell, renting games is also a saving grace that helps prevent PC gamers from ever going to Pirate Bay.

So again, I don't pirate games at all! I'm just the average PC gamer joe, I wouldn't know where to start pirating, even if I wanted to. If I don't want to support a particular developer,/publisher, I won't play the game at all, If I want to play a game, I purchase it or rent it on Game Pass, or buy it from CDkey. It's that simple.

Your commitment to buying legal copies of games is admirable, dude. But like I said before, companies should consider business models that make purchasing and playing games easier. This could include great ports without anti-tamper tech that impacts performance, engaging achievements, fair pricing, and more.

In additon, there are many reasons people resort to piracy. A major one is the lack of options due to various factors. This issue isn't limited to video games either. For example, movie buffs are enjoying Dune: Part 2 on IMAX, while cinephiles in developing countries like Iran or Afghanistan have to make do with watching it on their phones.

Bro you are just talking out your ass. You have no data that these reasons are why people pirate stuff majority of the time. DRM was added to games because so many were pirating the games in the first place. Stop with all the excuses of being a low life pirate. Sony has some of the most user friendly features and options for gamers yet they are the most popular games to pirate as I proved with data. Please post some data or just stop wasting everyones time mate.

I already shared a bar chart of Sony's annual PC revenue from first-party games to support my argument. If you choose to disregard it, that's your call. However, I'm not comfortable with insults and unproductive accusations. If you'd like to have a civil conversation, I'm open to it, but it needs to be based on mutual respect.

The true impact of piracy on game sales is not clear. Throwing around screenshots from pirate sites doesn't tell the whole story. You claim Sony's strategy of bringing their games to PC is foolish and and the rate of piracy in PC gaming is so high that it’s absurd if Nintendo follow Sony's footsteps. However, if that's the case, why would PlayStation chairman Hiroki Totoki announce 'aggressive' plans for PC releases of first-party games? They've been doing this since 2020 (Horizon Zero Dawn). Do you think three years isn't enough time for a company to develop a clear perspective on its future strategies?

Ultimately, while anti-tamper measures can delay game cracks, they often come with downsides like stutters and lower frame rates, potentially outweighing their benefits. If you need more proof, see Digital Foundry's PC tech review of Resident Evil Village DRM.

Maybe one day I'll understand the appeal of GASS games... But until then, I'll stick to playing games that don't require a mortgage to purchase.

Sony is literally bringing everything to PC but Bloodborne. It's possible that the next Souls game we see from them will be Demon's Souls.
