Got to give it to them, Blizzards still makes some of the best cgi movies.
Anyhow, I didn't buy the PC version due to the online DRM foolishness, but I'll look at the X360 version once it gets bundled with this expansion in a game-of-the-year edition.
I think that some of these pronouncements by companies like EA are trial balloons designed to see how far they can push customers. If consumers cry out, the company backs off and "clarifies." If customers say nothing, the company rams the policy forward. Don't think for a minute EA wouldn't go for always-online games if consumers would stand quietly for it.
Whatever, EA. I can't think of a single one of their games that I was waiting for anyway. I'll just stick with publishers that have a bit more respect for consumers.
An interesting demo, despite all of the stuff that's not working and needs to be added. I like all of the care that they're putting into the animations. Could be a great game.
@LaPolicia Yeah, they definitely didn't give the art department a new budget--just recycled last year's models and technology. Anyhow, as long as it has a wide range of wrestlers, a good editor, and a decent storyline, I'll probably be worth getting after at a discounted price.
@killlo @blackace @atopp399 Backing up the game data on a disk or HDD would not resolve the issue. The game would still prompt you for a Steam login anytime you tried to install it from disk or tried to play it on a new system setup. Valve would need to actually release a patch that would allow you to continue with installation/play beyond the login prompt. I am not confident that they would ever do so, nor is there anything in their EULA that suggests they would.
@Joedgabe @DeViLzzz The GFWL DRM is included in the game code. The game installation routine is programmed to ask for GFWL authentification. Unless a patch is released, you'll never be able to get beyond the GFWL prompt when trying to install or play a game. It won't just go away without a patch fix.
This is an ethics test for both Microsoft and publishers who use GFWL. If no patch is used to nullify the GFWL DRM, I won't be bothered with either Microsoft or these particular game studios in the future (*looking at you Relic/Dawn of War 2*).
@Divedude I was thinking about the Dawn of War 2 games as well, which I bought some years ago. Some genius decided that it needed both GFWL and Steam (Retribution uses only Steam). So, unless there is a patch released, DoW2 + Chaos Rising expansion could become unplayable if GFWL goes down. If this indeed is not fixed, I would be very reluctant to buy any other game that relies on a server for DRM authentication.
