HI Fellas.

I have been having a strange problem in the last month or so. Basiclly what happens is that after using my pc for about half an hour my graphics display goes off and then a second or 2 later, the monitor turns off, although it's still in the ready position, like when it would normally turn off after a certain period of inactivity, ready to come on again when the keyboard or mouse is moved. Yet the PC is still running and I cant get the video display to come up again by keyboard or anything, only a restart works.

I've checked everything, I can, connections, GPU/Systems temperatures, anti-virus, event logs, etc, etc but nothing seems out of the ordinary and I havn't installed anything for literally a few months bar what Windows normally installs updates, and I doubt my GPU is failing because you can restar the system normally and it will come back on every time, and then half an hour later, the same thing happens, any ideas?

System Specs, custom build

AMD Athlon II x3 440 CPU

2GB RAM

512MB GeForce 8800GTS

Foxconn A6GMX Mobo

Nvidia ForceWare Driver 295.73

Nvidia Update

580W PSU G7 Power Extreme (on a side note it could be a PSU issue although I dunno it's never happened in the year I've had the pc, and i would've probably noticed something by now if it was, I know PSU probs aren't always easy to spot though, so I might change the PSU).

Cheers

Hi guys.

I have an Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 512 GPU using the latest nvidia 285.62 drivers under Windows 7 32-bit, connected to a 2006-era samsung HD LCDTV via a DVI connection. It works except that the driver's control panel won't let me set the resolution to the panel's native 1360x768 Resolution. 1280x720 works and so do many others but the desktop is not sized correctly to fit the screen and when I go into resizw desktop and hit the button, the screen for resizing doesn't appear. This happens even on a clean driver uninstall/re-install and it's drivin us nuts, also the refresh rate seems to be unclear at various reolutions, your availabel optionsjumps between 29/30 and 59Hz depending on what res you have selected.

The TV's manual says that DVI does not support PC function although it displays a picture when using the DVI Connector so it must work, it doesn't have HDMI Just DVI + VGA and I'd rather use the digital DVI.

Can anybody give us some help here? Much apreciated.

Cheers

Hi Guys.

Does anybody think that the lighting effects in the PC version of the sims 3 especially on the outside of houses and the light cast by lamps etc is not quite as good as the console versions?

I don't know but even the original Sims for the PS2 way back in 03 seemed to have a better 3D engine lighting-wise than even The Sims 2 on the PC did, even with the PC Version at maximum settings, I know I had both of them for comparison.I'm unsure if this has anything to do with the game needing to run on integrated graphics or lower-end cards or what not but to me the lighting just doesn't seem to be as rich as what the world looks like on the consoles (I'm thinking of the PS3/360 here).

Anybody else thought this as well or am I missing something here? I'd love to hear anyone's ideas. I know there was Radience Light System for The Sims 2 which was supposed to really improve the atmosphere of the game, I wonder if there's one for Sims 3 as well. Here's my specs just so you know,

AMD Athlon II X3 440 3.0 Ghz triple-core

2GB RAM

512MB GeForce 8800GTS

Samsung Spinpoint 500GB HDD

Windows 7 32-bit

What a good game this looks like but I think they should remake something like Batman & Robin (released on the Psone in 1998) or allow you to explore gothem city whole with vehicles and other playable characters, like Mr Freeze or somthing for thier next game. What'd ye guys think?

Only god knows but its unlikely one of the better OEM's.

Silicel1

True but it surely is better than a generic no-name PSU it must be I mean they've put some brand name on it and gave it specifications and it feels fairly substantial. It might even be a re-brand of someone else's supply, the industry does these kinda thing don't they? They all come from the same/or similar factories and companies put thier name on products that meet thier quality standards and the rubbish ones off the production line gets sold as generic units.

I recently bought a G7 Power Extreme 580W PSU from Mapalin for about £30 reduced from £40 for my new gaming rig. It has 3 12v rails and it seems to be holding up reasonably well. However I'm not sure who the manufacturer really is. There's no mention of websites or anything on the box or the PSU itself just the importer who is Compucase. Given that it lacks a PCI-Express 6-pin plug (had to use an adapter ,don't like doing that obviously) and seems to have very vague specs (passive PFC,OPP UVP, OVP , no real specifics on efficiency just >76% aye right we'll see, ATX/EPS Complience versions it just says it supports the latest ones, and that each of the 12V Rails are only about 16-18A Each leads me to believe that it's a cheapo unit not much better than an unbranded generic unit, if at all.

Added to which taking a peak inside it looks rather sparten although it feels alot heavier than a typical generic supply.

Can anyone shine a light on who on earth the OEM of this supply actually is cause I'd be interested to find out just how good/or horrible this supply really is, I know it's a cheapo compared to an Antec or anybody else but it was only ever a temporary for my new rig just now till I get some money together for a more decent one.

PC Specs here,

AMD Ahlon II X3 440 CPU

Foxconn A6GMV Motherboard w/AMD 690G Chipset/ATI SB600 Southbridge

2GB DDR3 1333MHZ RAM,Not sure of the brand name

500GB Samsung Spinpoint F3 HDD

512MB XFX GeForce 8800GTS

22x TSSTCorp SH-S222A CD/DVD Burner

ThermalTake Armor+ VH600SWA Full-Tower Case

G7 Power Extreme 580W PSU

17In Digimate LCD

here my old Geforce 8800GTS 512Mb, Athlon II X3440 CPU, 2GB RAM PC could probably beat a GT 530 Heaven runs OK at 1280x1024 it gets on average 15-30fps with AA And AF set as high as they'll go in DX10 Mode.

Only thing that's missing really is DX11 and some more video RAM would be nicer but really I'm still not complaining.

Considering all the cars in the GTA games aren't based on, but are influenced, by several cars in Real life since then they don't have to pay the companies to use their names and models. No.Treflis
Ah, but we're not talkin about the cars already in the game here, I'm suggesting replacing the cars like the modding community do with real ones, even if you have to detract from using the badges/model names of the real cars for copyright reasons.

OK Here's a different idea I had for a real vehicle pack mod for GTA.
Doesn't have to be IV Necesserily if SA is easier to do then fair dues.
Most of the car mods for GTA especially SA and IV are either American, german or japanese cars, and alot of these are peerformance models withh not enough mainstream cars in my opinion.
How's about an entirly british car pack comprising the good (and bad) cars of britain since this section isn't covered very much bar say the mini and range rovers.

you could have things like,

Ford of Britain (Cortina, mondeo, escort, sierra) etc.

British Leyland (Morris Marina, Austin Allegro/Maxi, Rovers SD1 P6 200, Triumph Dolomite/Stag/Acclaim/2000, MG's, Land Rover, Jaguars, Wollsleys, Leyland Truck & Buses, ) some of the older models would be nice.

Vauxhall (Nova,Corsa, Astra,Cavelier, Omega) etc

Lotus (I know these are quite well catered for anyway)

This could add abit more variety to the game, you might have things like Marinas and Escorts in the poorer areas and upmarket Jags, Rools Royces, Wollsleys and range rovers in the wealthier parts of town.

I realise that this could be quite hard to do because not many folk would want to model the older cars and you'd probably need a team of people who knew them well, but this is just a little interesting idea I thought I'd put out here if anybody thought it was interesting.
Let us know what you all think.
