@02050muh: sure there is. some people want to get away from the computer and like playing games in the living room. I have a pc that can play anything, but I still prefer gaming on my Xbox One X.

but to better reply to your comment: before I had my One X, I traded in my One S towards it... I went a month without an Xbox. During that time, I played Forza, Gears, etc. on my PC. I was thankful that option was there. When I got my One X, I signed in, and installed all my games.. my progress carried right over to my Xbox. It's about being able to play anywhere you want to. That's Microsoft's plan. If you want to play on your PC, that's ok too.. Microsoft knows what they're doing.

the bold that Spencer is talking about is doing more things to win back fans. Microsoft did things right with the 360 and had a stronger launch then Sony had with the PS3.. that's just a fact.. then later, Sony caught up in market share. Then Sony had a more successful launch with the PS4 then Microsoft had with the Xbox One, and we see where things are now. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Microsoft now had their turn. If they do things right, I think they can. They will have the console with the Series X, and now if they can just launch with like 4 awesome exclusives, that'll be a great launch, even if Sony has a great launch as well. I want to see it more competitive.. I want to see better games on both consoles.. how about a better racer on PS5? Grand Turismo Sport was good, but Forza's better. Just an example. We need more then Japanese games on the PS5, and Microsoft needs more AAA Japanese games, just for variety, on the Xbox.. I hope they're ALL coming next gen. I'll be getting the Series X first, then the PS5 later to have both covered either way.. Here's looking to the next Spider-man and Flight Simulator!

@Barighm: there's all this talk of 8K now in these next consoles, which is a fantasy, but we're too far along to just want 1080p anymore. Xbox One X really got the industry going with 4K gaming at 30 fps. This next gen will solidify 4K at 60 fps, and that in and of itself will be awesome for both xbox and playstation. I think we can at least look forward to that. not sure about this whole ray tracing stuff.. but if that can be implemented without too high a cost in performance.. then wow... 4k with ray tracing will be more then enough!

I have no doubt that all the backward compat games will be available on day one. I hope they resume the program once the Series X launches. it's been a great program so far, and I enjoy playing the 360 games I never had time to finish.

I've never had trouble getting to my games and I started off with the launch Xbox One. But now? You can get to your games in one click. How is this difficult to navigate. we're so spoiled these days it's ridiculous. If you have an Xbox, and if you've had one, the UI isn't difficult. If you have a PS4, and have had a PS4 for a long time, and then you try the Xbox's UI, of course it's going to be difficult because it's different. It's never been difficult. Just take a minute and learn it. It's easier now, but I actually like how it was before better. Also, in previous versions, you could still uninstall unused add-ons and shrink space. that's nothing new. The only thing I hope for is that with Series X, that Microsoft really comes up with a more "4K" UI. We'll see.

I honestly would love to have some version of the "Blade" UI back that was on the 360. But I'm pretty sure we're stuck with the tiles, which I don't mind. Overall not bad. This new build was a bit jarring though as they moved alot more around, and removed several things that were obvious to find, but I guess that's more "streamlined."

@xantufrog: you'll see when they launch the consoles and your PS4 games work and newer games still work on both. Halo Infinite for example will still play on Xbox One and One X, but will look "infinitely" .. lol.. better on the Series X. this has been the plan all along. PS5 games will be exactly the same way. it's why this is click bait and not news. Microsoft and Sony aren't just going to forget their games going forward.. there will still be support. Spencer has said this over and over.. and Sony will do this too. it's why this is not news. This is a good thing. We all should still be able to play our games. It's smart business too.. for both camps, because not everyone can afford the PS5 or Series X. To say "exclusive" to PS5 or Series X is misleading because neither camp will have games 1, 2,3,4,5 years and beyond exclusive to it alone. This has already been established, and why it is not news.

@xantufrog: Say what you will, but the fact remains that this was also announced with the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. Both 4K consoles released assets to take advantage of the higher resolutions they could provide, and that's exactly what the next gen will do as well. Of course they won't launch exclusive games meant for Series X and PS5 at launch. This is not news at all. It will be the same with the PS5. Sony will not in 100 years make a game meant JUST for the PS5.

Everyone was wondering these same comments when the XBox One X launched, and all the Xbox One X did was improve existing games, and it really did. Series X will follow the exact same formula. That's all. Next gen games will launch with assets to take advantage of it while current gen games won't be able to.

I'll be picking up both the Series X and PS5 when they launch and I will still play my existing games for both consoles just fine, while also playing games meant for it with much improved graphics. Series X and PS5 will provide games that are going to be incredible.. they just won't be so incredible on One X and PS4 Pro, but they'll still work. again. not news.

this isn't news. the title is click bait. This is no different then what Sony is doing to.. it's called backward compatibility. It was introduced, and discussed before the launch of the xbox one x and ps4 pro.. the idea that games would be compatible with the existing consoles with just an upgrade in graphics. it's a good thing, not bad. the title is worded to seem like it's something bad. it's not new, nor unheard of. Sony will do completely the same exact thing.. keep ps4 games compatible with PS5, with higher quality assets available for PS5. This article should mention something like... "this is nothing new..." but it does not. crazy.

this has not changed my excitement for the Series X or PS5 whatsoever because those consoles will still make games look their best.. the same way my PS4 Pro and One X do now. I'm super excited because it will make absolutely no difference.. to make games "exclusive" to Series X or PS5 would alienate and divide the player base. this is only smart business by Microsoft and Sony.

I was thinking the same thing when the Series X was announced. All that surface area.. bring back the face plate idea like with the Xbox 360! Allow them to snap on the front and sides. I think that would be really, really cool!

@shakesmcqueen: architecture will be similar. One may be a bit faster then the other, but both will be far better then what we have now. it's going to be exciting. I hope either company has plenty of games that fully use that power, instead of making us wait a year or two: "coming in spring.. ____ game which will be awesome!" Then releasing a patch on day one to finish features, or fix major bugs. ugh. I'll have both consoles, going to trade in my ps4 pro for the ps5, and one x for series x.. and I really hope there's plenty of content for both on launch. next spider-man anyone?

both consoles will be great. next-gen games are my only concern. I'm actually pretty bored with games that all look the same.. on both platforms.
