well if you are after a good rpg then The Witcher 2 is for me one of the stand out games of the year to date, Total war Shogun 2 is a very good civ building/RTS game, Crysis 2 has a very good single player campaign, HERE is a link the a review i wrote of the witcher 2, any way good luck with your search.

That one. It'll max both.

great find, that's a solid machine and well worth the investment, cpu is fine for what he wants to play and the gpu is very good for the price, my old notebook had a GTX260m in it and it was fantastic......

[QUOTE="psp_mtness"]

well you don't game without the power-supply in a notebook it just doesn't make sense and you will often times find gpu/cpu under-clocks on battery so wattage isnt really a factor,

ronvalencia

At a given process node, clock speed and ASIC design, the total transistor count has influences on power consumption curve. Both AMD Madison (Redwood) and Broadway (Juniper) uses TSMC 40 nm process node. On gaming laptops, max wattage on CPU and GPU combo guides the size form factor.

i was giving the OP a better option for his gaming needs for around the same price, i don't think anyone would argue that the HD5850 is a much better gpu for gaming compared to the HD5650, it like chalk and cheese tbh, and his native res on the notebook he was looking at is 1920x1080 so he would have no chance of maxing games like dragonage, i had a GTX260m in my old notebook and it didn't max the game so there is no way the 5650 will.

This is "gaming laptop" i.e. we don't know OP's level of mobility. With DAO and max settings, I ussually play at 1600x900p.

At max power saving mode, my Mobility Radeon HD 5730 goes down to 100Mhz core/150Mhz memorywith Cat 10.7. Does your Mobility Radeon HD 5870 clocks down to 100Mhz?

i haven't checked to see what it down-clocks to as Ive never had my machine in other than high performance, i think the difference is you seem to class a SXPS16 as a gaming notebook, i don't, i class it as a very good multimedia machine, the OP topic name was "how good is the gaming laptop" implying a gaming notebook, i gave him a suggestion of what i would class a gaming notebook to be in or around the price he was looking at. i agree i haven't used a cooler on my M17x because temps are very good, even when i owned a SXPX16 i didn't need a cooler, so one needs to check temps on a notebook to notebook basis.

Get the asus g73. A buddy bought one and can max out almost anything.

I got a m11xR2 for school and kinda regret it because I bought it for battery life but I always have it plugged in.

His laptop makes my m11x look like a childs toy.

partytimekegs

umm how can you even compare a 11" machine with a 17" machine......thats just plan silly, the M11x is a fantastic small machine, the G73 is a good large machine two very different machines for very different needs.....

anyway something like this would be a decent pick up for the money you have to spend, upgrade ram and maybe go with the i7-720Qm and you sweet to go.

its average, it will play most new games at medium/low settings and some older ones at higher settings, decent price but i think you could find better for around or slightly higher in price.

for example this

im enjoying it, i do agree with a lot of the difficulty issues brought up in the review, its a nightmare to learn the game if you dont have help, fortunately i did and im actually enjoying it, its got a steep learning curve and as its a grinding rpg can see why some might be put off by it, im around 35-40hrs into it and i think its one of those the more you play it the more enjoyable it gets, at the moment ive given it a 7.5/10, with the two main grips i have being the Buy/sell of items and the p2p patch method, other than that ive gotten used to the laggy interface and for me ill see if the issue gets addressed over the next months, ive paid for a 6 month subscription and that will give me time to see if things are addressed and if so, it will continue to get my support.

i have to agree for me it is definitely the best diablo 2 clone around, well worth picking up, you can get the gold pack for dirt cheap and it will see you put around 50+hrs into single player campaign, doing with your GF will just add the the experience....enjoy it.

i have to agreew ith most here, it is a solid game, fun with some good maps and ideas, would i pick it over Civ V? no, infact as far as RTS/economy games go for 2010 its not in my top three, doesnt mean its not a good game though.
