Why do you need an Xbox 360 controller for your PC?Greatgone12

I don't need an Xbox 360 controller but I want it because of GFW games, for the few multiplayer games I own, and the Logitech Rumblepad2, and the 360 controller offer the best combination of native controller support in games.

So that's 46 console games and 19 PC games... based on that, I don't see how you can reasonably compare the overall cost between the two systems.

MyopicCanadian

I never owned 46 console games at once.

I owned a number of games for the gamecube at one point, before selling those to buy the more expensive xbox, pay for Xbox live, games, and etc.

I see where your coming from but It's like saying I owned 12 cars altogether at one point in my life, and then telling people you own 12 cars.

I have been seeing alot of thread comparing the cost of PC's and console's lately, and I have decided to make my own thread to compare my personal experience with just price between last gen with console and this gen with PC.

Last Gen I was a console only gamer.

I owned a gamecube for 2.5 years and over that time I purchased 3 extra controllers, 33 games, and other accessory ( In total I spent about $1900 for everything I owned for the gamecube, including the gamecube).

I later sold the gamecube for a new xbox (because of the lack of online support for the gamecube) and used the extra money to buy 3 controllers, Xbox Live and around 13 new games ( costing me nothing after selling the gamecube).

As the years went by, and I continued buying game's I spent close to $2700 in total on that gen with console's.

~

This Gen I am a pc only gamer.

In late 2005 I decided to build a new gaming PC (first ever build).

It cost around $850 to build and it consisted of:

AMD 64 3000+ $110

Windows Xp Home $70

Better CPU Cooler & Fans $30

eVGA 7800gt $250

eVGA nForce 4 SLI $Free with the GPU I bought

Corsair PC3200 1gb (512mb X 2) $80

250gb SataII HD $85

600w Modular PSU $100

Chassis $30

Logitech Controller $25

Razer Copperhead Mouse $55

Logitech Keyboard $15

~

In late 06' I decided to upgrade my PC with :

AMD Opteron 165 $150

Xbox 360 Controller $35

G.SKill PC5000 2gb (1gb X 2) RAM $ 115

&

Sold the old processor for $70 and the old memory for $60

~

So the new upgrade cost me $180

~

Over that year (between 05' and 06') I bought 8 games which cost me around $300.

So up to that point I spent around $1350 on games and on my PC.

~

Then this last winter I decided to sell my current PC for complete new build consisting of:

Intel E8400 $200

Thermalright Ultra 120 Ex $55

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit $80

MSI Neo2 P35 $85

G.Skill PC1000 4gb (2gb X 2) RAM $110

eVGA 8800GTS 512mb $300

Antec 900 Chassis $80

~

It cost around $900 and the old PC parts sold for $550, so it cost $350 out of pocket.

~

Since then I have bought 11 games costing me around $350.

~

Thus, so far this gen I have spent $2050, including games.

~

Last Gen with consoles lasted me 4 years and cost me around $2700

and

If I keep up with my current rate of hardware upgrades and game purchases I should spent roughly $2700 by the end of this gen.

The same as with the consoles

~

So basically all I am trying to say is both Console's and PC's are very expensive and which ever you choose to game on your better have a fat wallet or love kissing ass.

P.S. One thing I have noticed since changing from console to PC's is the fact that games are relatively cheaper and I seem to get more out of each game I buy IMO.

You forgot LCD screen. But not a bad build.

*EDIT* oh and mouse + keyboard. What you left off could easily add $150 to $200 to the price. Still not bad.

-Wheels-

Since when did the PS3, 360, or the Wii come with a LCD Screen? Also, a KB/M combo is like $20 bucks and that can easily be negated because the prices he gave on those specific parts aren't the cheapest around. You could honestly save another $50 bucks.

[QUOTE="-DrRobotnik-"][QUOTE="jonnyt61"][QUOTE="piercetruth34"]

I'm going to make a new thread where no ps3 games count. Therefore the 360 has better exclusives and I win. Do you burn books too Jonny? You are such a fanboy it's ridiculous.

Rules of my thread.

No game called mgs4 will be included.

Any games with over 20 hours of cinema will be included.

No golf games will be included because they aren't worthy of my purchase.

No tech demos will be included

No games called Buzz Quiz show will be included because they aren't worthy of my purchase either.

The 360 has more exclusives. That is fact LAWLZ.

jonnyt61

 Yes, because those rules are logical, and fair, right? Carry on showing your blind fanboy ignorance.

And your rule is!? Not counting a game because it cant be purchased on disc!?

No, not counting Arcade/PSN titles. That's a fairly logical, and fair rule.
The justification being simply lets say, there's 12 AAA Arcade titles and only 2 AAA retail titles. Yet the other console has 6 AAA retail titles.

Now most people will agree that Arcade/PSN titles can NOT be accurately compared to full retail games, because they adhere to completely different standards. So, now we look at the overall numbers, 14 AAA titles, vs 6 AAA titles.

The console with 6 is going to be seen as the poor console, even if this is far from the truth, due to the bloated number of Arcade titles.

You may want to ignore this justification, because it'll help your side. But it is fair, reasonable, and to be quite frank, perfectly logical reasoning.

Just to chime in.

Some of the most thick minded people I have ever heard are right here in these forums and I am happy to say both of you are just wasting your time, trying to prove to each other who's right when in the end your opinion on the matter will never change.

Oh Yeah...

I agree with jonnyt6 Arcade/PSN titles shoulnd't count; Enormously different Standards

But it really doesn't matter gaming this generations has fallen off on all platforms. That why I gave it up.

I hope you guy's like shallow games, that's what every plaftorm getting and has been getting for years now :)

And Braid is on PC lol

Those saying you can't compare the Cell with a PC processor simply don't know what they're talking about, however. What you need to do is compare performance in certain kinds of operations, with software that's optimized for the specific platform. For example, a video compression program optimized for cell versus one that's optimized for C2Q, then compare the results. Or get even more specific and compare software specifically written to gauge integer performance on each platform, as well as software to specifically gauge floating point performance.

It's quite likely the fact that the SPE's simply aren't appropriate for certain kinds of tasks. What's clear about Cell--and has been from the outset--is that it will excel at things like media encoding/decoding/streaming, and quite likely physics operations. What it won't ever be good at are integer based "General Purpose" operations. Theirs the catch, Game code is primarily *Integer* code, with the exception of Physics and 3D models. In the case of PS3, the 3D is handled exclusively by the RSX GPU (Cell doesn't support the same instructions so it can't share the workload in that area) while physics, of course, will likely be offloaded to the SPE's. In any case, Cell isn't going to "Completely destroy" a C2Q in any kind of operation. With a fully optimized app it'd probably be a tough showdown for video/audio encoding and decoding, for virtually anything else (game code) the Cell would get pummeled.

In either case it's immaterial: Cell's chance of supplanting the established x86/x64 processing base is exactly *Zero*. It'll live in PS3, some TV's and maybe a handful of other consumer electronics devices, but then it will be replaced by the next big MMP (Marketing Moniker Processor) from Sony when PS4 hits. If you'll recall, we were supposed to be running high-end workstations with the so-called "Emotion Engine" processor by now. I think we all know how that ended up :)

I believe it will be close between PC and PS3. Also, Splinter Cell, and Alan Wake are on the flippin PC, so they aren't exclusives.

Anybody that knows anything about PC games sales...knows that this is about right. UT2004, sold 50k in US for about 7-8 months after its orginal realease. Then dropped down alittle to about 40k. PC games sell much different than console games, console game sell alot the first 2-3 months and then sales tend to almost dissapear, while PC games sell around these numbers for along period of time. I bet you that Crysis and UT3 will both easily sell over a million for the PC....

I assume this will score better on the PC, because of the lack of stutters on the 360 version, better graphics, and it controlls better on PC. I think it will score 9.2 for PC.

Anyways, when will the PC review be up?
