I run them both fine on Vista 64. As more patches have come out for it I find that things are running with fewer hiccups all the time.
Wait a minute, Medieval Conquest is not freeware that I'm aware of. I've had it for 2 or 3 years and even then I got it for about $10. Probably a different game, sorry. Nevertheless, you might want to check this one out if you like that sort of thing.
I know exactly which game you're talking about. It's called Medieval Conquest. It's connected with Cat Daddy Games (www.CatDaddy.com) and Global Star Software (www.globalstarsoftware.com). It's cartoonish and quite addictive. It has its flaws, but it's a great little game.
Both are great, but for me, the strategic zoom in SupCom makes it the game of choice. It will spoil you on all other RTS's, or at least it did me. I get so frustrated now with the limited viewing area of other RTS's. Also, there seem to be more mods available for SupCom, which keeps the game fresh.
On the other hand, I'd say skip Stalker and get both of them. COH is too good to miss.
How about Grim Fandango? Great storyline.
That's why I learned long ago that I will never again buy a game without playing the demo first. I've been screwed too many times by hype and the opinion of others. EB used to take back games just because they sucked, but they stopped, and so now if there's no demo I don't buy.
Incidentally, you are right about the game being about atmosphere. By far this is the game's strongest selling point. The combat isn't bad either, but the atmosphere is amazing.
I did download the drivers. They're easy to install and I noticed none of the stuttering that some other people complained about. In the notes they claim to have fixed some issues with Bioshock specifically, so why not download them.
