This is a pretty fun game. Once you get up to about 20k population it starts becoming hectic to manage though. I guess I don't see the appeal of zooming in on the city to see what the citizens are doing, I'm usually too busy micro managing stuff.
Maybe he should have done the kickstarter for the prizes instead of charging people to come to his event. When you start charging people for utilizing another company's IP is when they'll come after you.
It initially failed because they tried to cater to a crowd of gamers from 15 years ago. Nowadays the hardcore raiding group makes up less than 1% of a game's population. If you actually want a game to be profitable you have to cater to casual gamers. FFXIV has proven it can have content to appeal to all kinds of players and maintain a subscription.
I don't choose a console based on first party games, I choose a console based on the games I want to play. If the two coincide, great, but rarely is this the case in my buying decisions.
