I wouldn't right off "non-chemical" addiction as non-dangerous. There are studies of compulsive gamblers which have the same effect on the brain while playing as substance addiction. I would put free-to-play games like Smurf Village closer to gambling behavior than traditional games, but the concept of addiction could be extended there as well.
I wouldn't sympathize with Jack Thompson either, but I do acknowledge that potential for harm (for the gamer) is there and addressing any possible issue is better than ignoring or worse demonizing it.
Ugh, Good and Evil 2, Half-Life 3. And now for me at least, Thief 4 is starting to feel like black-holes of development news. I'm so ready for a great Thief game. The last one seemed just barely good enough to me.
