[QUOTE="ocstew"] Lol. EA is a PUBLISHER. Steam needs games from publishers to turn a profit. Nothing can replace the huge hole left by the absence of EA games if they do decide to boycott.Baxhand
Right. A publisher. A being the key word. Even if EA were to take their ball and go home (to their second-rate service which would no-doubt be the target of boycotts and general scorn), Steam is so ludicrously profitable that they're not a big enough piece of the pie to cause any major damage.
Any given week/month there are 3-4 EA games in the top 10 sellers list on steam.
With the deals of summer on steam this would not reflect this now due to the deals going on. When there is no sales running EA is on that list alot.
If you do a steam "top 10 sellers" for the last couple of years EA will have 3-4 games out of the top ten on average of best sellers for any given month/week on steam.
Just saying.
And if EA didn't have their games on Steam then it would be another 3-4 games taking up those slots. The point is, EA profited far more than Steam in the equation and if they pull their games from Steam it will cost them far more money than it will cost Steam and Valve knows it, thus their unwillingness to compromise at this time.
A lot of people check out Steam every week for their deals. Far fewer people go out and check every other DD service. It'd be like Panasonic pulling all their HDTVs out of Best Buy. It doesn't matter that there are other, and better, places to buy Panasonic HDTV's, a ton of people seem to think Best Buy is the only worthwhile place to buy them at and they don't visit those other places. Those people will simply pick a different brand. A lot of people who love Steam have this same mentality.
EA just wants people to buy off Origin to increase their own profits, but I'm not sure this is the best way for them to go about things.
