Only way to do this would be if everyone listed 10 games, and the top games were the ones.

It would be mob rule though, and while "best" it would not be correct.

I would likely list these, I may pick a single game or a series created and finished within the gen (no order, I do not prefer these games based on ranking):

Halo 3

The Witcher (Series)

Fallout 3 (and new vegas, calling it a series)

Oblivion (can swap with skyrim if needed)

STALKER (Series)

BioShock

Company of Heroes

Demon's souls

Deus Ex: Human revolution

Valkyria Chronicles

They were likely the games I remember the best this gen, there are alot of good games, but these are my presonal favorites.

Thats a pretty good way to do it, and your list aint too shabby either. The list i made isnt even my personal top 10, its just the games ive realized are the most praised in the community and with critics. My personal 10 would be 1. Last of us 2. Mass effect 3 3. Journey 4. Uncharted 3 5. Skyrim/fallout 3 6. Battlefield 3 7. Deus Ex HR 8. Assassins Creed 2 9. Bioshock 1/ bioshock infinite 10.super smash bros brawl

Bioshock Infinte? Uncharted 2? SKYRIM?

This had better be a good ruse TC.

Stringerboy

Um.....those are incredible games that all scored perfect scores from dozens of critics

Your point being?

My point being that even tho perhaps you dont like them very much, why would it surprise u so much that they would appear in a list of the greatest games this gen? By the majority of gamers, these three games were masterpieces, and at least uncharted 2 and skyrim had a huge impact on the industry. Bioshock infinite was lauded by most critics as one of the best games of this gen as well. So even if u dont personally agree, it shouldnt seem to be a ridiculous ruse that they would be mentioned in this thread

[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"] In what way does it make top10? It was hardly top 5 of 2007, let alone top 10 of the gen. At the end of the day its another multiplayer shooter with a terrible story/short campaign.Mozelleple112

Because it set the standard this gen for online multiplayer. It shipped with a great campaign and story, 4 player online co op, splitscreen, Competitive multiplayer, Forge map editing, Theatre mode, File sharing ... So many aspects that have directly influenced games such as Uncharted 2 and 3. Its a pity that the only other game that matched Halo 3 for content is Halo Reach ... another game from Bungie. It also influenced CoD4 in so many ways, and we know how that changed the multiplayer landscape.

You foam at the mouth about MGS4, but what has that achieved? Nothing. It was a fantastic game, but the writing was even worse then MGS1-3. There are so many better single player games than MGS4 from last gen, TLOU one of them .

MGS4 > TLOU. Still a better story, voice acting, OST, ending, etc.. MGS4 didn't revolutionize.. It just bested everything. Story, voice acting, cinematics, soundtrack etc...

MGS4 is outstanding but i highly disagree. MGS4 did not trigger an emotional response in me like the story with joel and ellie

Crysis also has a good presentation. It has great gameplay as well. Sadly people being people jumped on the train of hate and just wanted to see it as presentation. Even though it was one of the most open ended shooters around. It's a digrace people use this argument against Crysis/Crytek but not Naughty Dog.

uninspiredcup

I think you have it a bit confused, crysis is upheld for its graphics, not presentation. Crysis has decent presentation, naughty dog tho uses presentation techniques that are often exclusive to cinema, you play a naighty dog game and you feel like you are watching a movie. In uncharted's case, you feel lile you are watching an explosive indiana jones film. In last of us case, you feel like you are watching a dark and gritty drama movie. Their cinematic feel is laregly due to the presentation that naughty dog employs, when i play crysis YES the graphics are gorgeous but i dont feel like im watching a movie i know very well im playing a game

Crysis is held up because of both. Without a good presentation graphics mean shit. Also Crysis was more interested in being a "game" than a movie. It barely has cut-scenes and all this amazing detail is rendered in a huge non-linear enviroment. The problems Crysis does have, such as AI, can also be found in Last of Us which has linear tighter enviroments in comparison. But again, that gets a free pass. People it's cool to hate Crysis.

Well see thats the main argument we get down to tho, u mention that crysis is more interested in being a game than a movie, well understand thats the main appeal of naughty dog. They are the frontrunners of a new movement to make games more cinematic, more like movies. Because here is the thing, alot of gamers want to see the medium evolve, to see it become more about just exploding aliens and chopping heads off. People want to see games tell deeper stories that trigger an emotional response. Thats why gamers want to see more games like the last of us and walking dead rather than more games like crysis and gears of war. There will always be games that are more arcadey fun like crysis, but those games arent going to evolve gaming narrative. Games like the last of us will As i said, it all just depends on whether ur in the crowd that wants gaming narrative to evolve or in the crowd that just likes to kick back with a game and have fun

[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"][QUOTE="RR360DD"]Sorry, but Halo 3 definitely makes the top 10 list. Still unmatched when it comes to content. I mostly agree, although I'd swap out Mass effect 2 for either 1 or 3. Oblivion instead of Skyrim. COD4:MW deserved to be there more than the likes of Portal 2.RR360DD

I can totally agree with that. And yeah MGS4 was a terrific game indeed but it wasnt a very revolutionary title for the ps3 or the mgs franchise. I did give it honorable mention tho

Every recent half decent game gets hyped as the best game in the world. It was the same with Skyrim. With retrospect and hype away, we can see it for what it is, shite.

Nothing original or new about Naughty Dog games. Good? Yes. Thats about it. Probably the most overrated developer in the industry.

uninspiredcup

To be honest i dont think anyone thinks this game is very original. All critics have admitted it, this game IS about zombies and does utilize gameplay that sorta mixes uncharted with resident evil. But what naughty does well is presentation, and i guess it just all depends on how important u think story and presentation are. Some people think gameplay and fun factor comes first, and i can understand why those people dont understand the hype around last of us

Last Of Us is just flavor of the moment. Nothing more.

uninspiredcup

I really dont think so, while i think its not the best game of all time (people that say that are nuts), its definitely the best developed game this generation. Let me specify tho, i dont think anyone thinks this game is the best GAMEY game this gen, or even the most fun game this gen either. In fact last of us is almost not fun at all, and to thise that play games just to have fun i can understand their confusion as to why people praise ot so much. But if u have played and beaten the game, ull understand why it is on such a high pedestal. As cheesy as it sounds, it does take gaming narrative to a new level, and its an emotional ride like no other game i can think of ever playing.

Theres a population of gamers that will play fifa, gears of war, and dark souls before they touch any of those artsy fartsy games. Some gamers just want to have fun and arent in it to experience an emotional, book-like/cinematic narrative, and thats fine.
