@plaintomato Based on how poor Mafia 2 was, I wouldn't hold my breath.

@jayjay444 Crysis 2 is not an open world game. The size of the environments is a huge factor.

So what? They showed some amazing looking screenshots (at the time) for Mafia 2 when it was in super early stages such as this, years and years before it came out. And that game was fucking baaaad. If this is the same people, this game would best be admired from afar and never examined close up.

@zenstrata Judging by how prominently and up front that RYSE game was featured during the Microsoft E3 2013 press conference, suits seem to think we love those god awful things. Prepare to be let down in a major way.

@Feedbackula Metroidvania is much more than the simplistic aspect of side scrolling. There are plenty of 2D side scrolling Castlevania games that do not qualify for Metroidvania genre classification because of the lack of gameplay elements. Gating of an open world based on what Ability/Skill/Equipment you have is a huge aspect that most of those games do not have. That gating is what made Shadow Complex qualify as the last great Metroidvania game, even though the world was extremely linear when you really looked at it. These new 3D set-piece brawlers like Lords of Shadow are even worse offenders regarding the lack of proper Metroidvania gameplay elements.

Damnit, Konami! Stop using this team to continually ruin your series. Please give us our skill/equipment gating, exploration, and advanced back-tracking you repopularized with SOTN, then continued to play out and destroy on 2D handheld systems. We want proper 3D Metroidvania games, not just a bunch of bad 3D brawlers.

So the order of borrowing systems and elements and ideas has come full circle back to Bioware. At least according to the developers of each game.

Baldur's Gate had inspiration for elements in Fallout, which had inspiration for elements in Fallout 3, which had inspiration for elements in Skyrim, which had inspiration for elements in Dragon Age 3, which had inspiration for elements in Mass Effect (4?).

Considering this and his, er... inappropriately worded stories about dildos from last night's Giant Bomb live stream, dude still needs a PR rep.
