@sparent180: I think it's somewhere in the middle. You want the loyal community to have some hope to cling to and something to talk about. Especially now that some big franchises might have a decade in between releases and people might wonder if the franchise is dead.

Just started playing it and have enjoyed it. The music flourishes are really good - surprised to hear they were a late addition because they are so pivotal to the feedback loop that I'm on the right path.

A 2? It's among the worst television shows ever made? I understand not liking it, but let's get some perspective here.

@probable: There's a segment of the population obsessed with this movie because they've adopted child trafficking as a way to feel noble about attacking the people they don't like. And it's easy to respond to any criticism with "I guess you just don't care about children, then!"

Until people like Caveziel and QAnon start going after churches and child beauty pageants, we know their passion for protecting children from sexualization has ulterior motives.

@damasacus: I look at something and decide whether the price is worth it. If it is, I buy it. That's how commerce works. I bought the original LotZ for $40, 35 years ago. $70 in 2023 is fine. Gamers just have a culture of grievance around prices.

@rickxy007: I loved BotW and I'm not getting paid. I understand the criticisms people have of it, they just didn't diminish my enjoyment to the same degree.

Having worked in gaming media, I can tell you most sites try pretty hard to draw as bright a line as they can between editorial and sales. Hype and bias still impact the reviewers, there's no way around that, but they love games and care about their work. At the site I worked at, every review was either to high or too low according to some users, so of course we either got paid or were mad we didn't get paid. Same thing every time. It's fine to disagree, but comment board cliches don't strengthen an argument.

@rickxy007: "The best Zelda dungeons" is a straightforward premise for a listicle. I'm fine with that, it's fun. From there it's the author's opinion. If you disagree, fine, I disagreed with plenty. I agree with you that the final dungeon of BotW shouldn't have been eligible but I can appreciate them thinking outside the box a bit. I don't agree that a DLC dungeon should be DQ'd. BotW's well-deserved "least dungeon-y" label doesn't disqualify the dungeons it does have from the list.

Accusing the writer of dishonesty and a lack of independence is quite a leap, and "I disagree therefore low standards/conspiracy/money" is a comment board cliche. It's not like the fat cats said "hey, push Minish Cap so we can rake in the cheddar!" These lists are fun to debate, no need to make it personal.

@Barighm: What if it's what drives Indy to retire? Or it is a passing of the mantle? There are lots of ways this could work. Of course, from the trailer, all we know is that he has rivals for the prize who doublecross him or are ahead of him at times. When you learned about ancient Greece, did that curriculum include concepts like false victory and fake ally?

I didn't imply everyone must be sexist. I responded to someone jumping to the term Mary Sue. In my experience it's used for any woman who's a bad ass outside of the Approved List That Proves I'm Not Sexist, like Ripley and Sarah Connor. Entertainment has lots of wish fulfillment, and some guys happily overlook male characters who do improbable awesome things, they only notice when a woman does it. It allows them to make what they think is a logical "it's bad storytelling" argument to justify their emotional resistance to it.

If she's truly a flimsy, lame Kai Leng-like character, I'll come back here and eat crow.
