Well you have what, $100 to spend - you could get a better video card. The 9800GT is basically a 8800GT - really not much gain. I suggest you bump it up to an ATI 4870 or a NVIDIA GTX 260 - either one can be had for $240seabiscuit8686

Thanks for the advice, but I changed the title of my post, around 800$ would be my budget.. I don't want to have the latest overpriced video card that just got out, just want one that does the job. I can always replace my video card later when I feel the need for a new one

EDIT : I just realised I had a working Power Supply in my closet, it's a 450W (Model:Antec P-450) with 4 SATA connector, 5 IDE and 1 PCI-E (do you plug that directly to your PCI-E video card?, I used to plug a normal IDE connector to my AGP8X card)
So I changed my list with that power supply to save some money

For a few extra bucks you can buy a 'cheap' cooler like the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and overclock that E8400 up to about 3.6-3.7 Ghz.VMAN-Vercetti

Added a CPU fan for overclocking :

Hello guys,

I'm thinking replacing my old PC (an old A7N8X-X motherboard with an Athlon XP processor, Geforce 6600, 1gig mem.) Cause I can't even enjoy playing new games like the Witcher (load time so long and graphict all on low..fps still crappy)
My goal with my new PC is to play the modern games (Crysis, Fallout 3, etc) while not spending too much. I don't want to get the best PC possible, just the best bang for my buck PC that will run today's game on high graphict level

This is the build I just made on newegg.ca, The only thing I don't want to change in this list is the Antec Case, cause it seems really the perfect case for my needs (I can keep this case for a long time even if I upgrade later)
Other than that I don't have a preference for any brand name (Intel or AMD) Tought I prefer Nvidia for a video card (had problem with ATI drivers card a while ago)

TOTAL: 809.87$CA

So if you think I can change some of the component up here to something else that will give the same kind of power for a lower price or same price, feel free to comment and i'll update my list

After reading this

This is what i consider doing to my old PC

-change my old Asus A7n8x-deluxe with
Foxconn G9657MA-8EKRS2H LGA 775

-change my processor with
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

-trash my 1.5gig ram for
G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) ddr2 800

-add a good drive to my old 80GB
Seagate Barracuda 400GB

and a replacement for my gefore 6600 ;p
EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX

-Keep my Antec case, my cd/dvd burner, my wireless networking card and my cheap audio card

Total of the upgrade : 447.95 $ before shipping
damn just realised this is on newegg.com... i'll check for the same stuff on newegg.ca, probably more costy cause of our cheap dollar now

Any advices/comment feel free :)

EDIT: oh and I forgot to say, Is a 64 bit OS really necessary? I am running windows XP and Ubuntu for now. Is there a huge increase in performance for running with a 64 bit OS nstead of a 32 bit one? I'm not actually a fan of buying a OS... i may try and *buy* Vista tought :P

I'm considering buying a new PC and budget is important for me

I'm still with a board with no PCI-Express slot with a low cost agp8x I got from a while ago
in order to keep my system able to play new games at that time. Now i'll have to switch for PCI-E board,
I'll check the part you suggested. I was planning for a 1100-1400$ system more up to date but what you say is true, the 600$ extra will be a waste so fast i prefer getting a good system for a lower cost.

Thank you for your post.
