@dabear: With gamepass being their major selling point, they are making basically no money on individual games when they release day one. It's $204 for a year of Ultimate, So basically 2 AAA games worth of income.
25 Million users, that's somewhere around $5B a year in subscriptions, if they are all Ultimate passes.
For comparison, GTA5 has made $7.7B alone since its release.
@johnny0779: Sure, but how much does a decent gaming machine cost? $600, $700, $1,200? And that computer will work today, but there is no guarantee that it will work tomorrow. There could be an update to a game that totally renders your computer useless. Followed by endless hours of troubleshooting and driver install to get things working again.
Or I can buy a box for $500 that I know should work properly, exactly like the day I first got it, 5-10 years down the line.
Some people just want the easement of putting a disc into a box and playing a game without hours wasted trying to get things to work.
@johnny0779: Anybody ever in the history of consoles, has bought a console for just one game. Then it usually turns into let's see what else they have to offer.
I bought a PS for Final Fantasy 7. That was it. It was the only game I was interested in for the PS, which has led to now and having a PS5.
