@shahid0317: Yeah, I get that. I typically close a page instantly if an ad auto-plays, particularly if it has sound. Again, I close pages that have really invasive shit.

But that's all the more reason for people not to use AdBlocker; it's people avoiding ads that makes them become more invasive and unbearable.

I think people need to accept a certain level of advertising and then everyone wins. Otherwise it just escalates, sites have stopped using non-invasive advertising measures because they're too easy to be ignored by AdBlocker and the like, so they step up their game and then it just gets out of control.

@mattcake: OK - you don't like advertisements. What is your alternative? If you simply suggest 'no advertisements' - how does the site continue to make enough money to pay their staff so they create content?

@shahid0317: I always whitelist all the sites I like anyhow. It's how they make money and survive. Using services like AdBlocker is just going to drive sites into more invasive forms of advertising and more creative ways of protecting their content.

When I was a 'gamer' it was still the 90s and most of this sort of content was only really available by paying for magazines.

These days the games journalists still need to be paid, as do all the other staff members involved in pulling together something like this.

If you you deny the revenue that is created via advertising, how do you suggest a site like this makes money exactly?

It's very easy to point out things we don't like (Advertising, Capitalism, etc) but pointing out legitimate, practical alternatives is a lot more difficult - but far more useful.

@drizzygadget: How do you suggest the site makes their money, if not through advertisements?
